Amazon.com Review

If you're looking for a telephone that does it all for a reasonable price, the AT&T 9370 is tough to top. The 900 MHz cordless device combines a digital answering machine and speakerphone in the base, and has a LCD screen on the handset that displays numbers and caller ID information. It takes a little time to program the handset and learn the handset's many features, but the reward is having a telephone that puts all the features anyone would need in the palm of your hand.

Using a few simple menu buttons on the handset, it's possible to recall a number from the unit's memory, redial a previous number, put callers on hold, and access other features. A dedicated answering-machine button let us retrieve our messages straight from the handset, and there was even a jack on the side where a headset can be attached for hands-free operation. Sound quality isn't stellar, but it's comparable to that of similarly-priced 900 MHz phones, and the handset is light, has a short antenna, and is comfortable during use.

The base unit can be mounted either vertically or horizontally and has a complete numeric keypad to use with the speakerphone. The digital answering machine can be split into two separate mailboxes for use as a basic messaging center. We really liked the talking caller-ID feature that let us record names and assign them to certain numbers, making it possible to know if someone important was calling without having to fumble for the handset. It's also is possible to record different answering-machine greetings and assign them to callers, making this unit a sensible choice for home office users who can keep their business calls separate from personal calls.

The fact that the base unit has no LCD for caller-ID information was about the only fault we could find with this phone. It's a terrific deal for anyone in the market for a telephone and answering machine unit who doesn't need the digital security features that digital 900 MHz handsets provide. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Great design
  • 2 answering-machine mailboxes

Cons:

  • No digital security
  • Takes some time to set up and learn

2.0 out of 5 stars great features, but very poor sound quality., May 25, 2001

This review is from: AT&T 9370 900 MHz Cordless Speakerphone with Answering System and Caller ID (Black) (Office Product)
I want to give this phone a good rating because the features it provides are amazing- I can't find any phones (at least not at a reasonable price) that have all the features this phone has packed into it! I LOVE the talking caller id and the answering system is great as well. Unfortunately, I get the worst static when I use this phone to talk- worse than any other cordless phones I've used. It's got it quirks too- for example if i'm talking on the phone and receive an incoming call which i do not answer, the phone disconnects when the incoming caller hangs up. I can then press the phone button to pick back up my original call- but it gets a little bit annoying. I have friends who have this same phone and experience the same problems I have with it. The people I talk to regularly while using this phone are begging me to get a new phone (the intermittent static sounds are driving them crazy-as well as me!), but like I stated before, the features are so great that I'm having a hard time finding a replacement I like. But I think I'll have to purchase something new and will end up just using this phone for the answering machine and talking caller id.

2.0 out of 5 stars great answering machine, horrendous phone, February 27, 2002

I wish I'd seen the prior reviews before I bought this product last summer. As everyone has said, it has many nice features (most of which I don't need or use), but the reception and sound quality on the cordless phone are a big disappointment. The sound has a "fuzzy" quality and I've always got the volume maxed out in an attempt to hear the other person.

I really hated it at first ... so much so that I hooked my old corded phone back up and used it instead for a while. I've become sufficiently accustomed to the poor sound quality of the cordless to use it occasionally now, but only when I'm not at my desk. I still make the majority of my calls on a corded phone. That's right ... the result of buying this product is that I now have two phones on my desk where I once had one. Not exactly a glowing endorsement.

There seem to be some other quality problems as well. I exchanged the first one I bought because the '5' button on the base keypad only worked intermittently, i.e., you had to punch it at just the right angle to get it to function. And guess what? The second one has the exact same problem. But after getting two of them in a row like that, I figured there was no point in going for a third and I kept the second one.

The answering machine works well enough and that's my main use of this product. I do wish it had a battery backup to retain messages in case of a power outage, but that doesn't seem to be a very common feature in answering machines these days.

1.0 out of 5 stars Loaded with features.....But, August 26, 2001

This phone is loaded with features. The phone would be an outstanding value... if it worked. Oh the features listed on the box all seem to be there, but the reception is Horrible. So horrible, that all the features in the world wouldn't matter because I don't care how many "bells and whistles" a phone has... if I can't hold a conversation with it... Its useless to me. My 6 yr old daughter gets better reception on her toy walkie talkies than what I can get with this phone. I've had two of these phones... I have already taken the first one back and will be taking the one I exchanged that one for back tomorrow. Both had the same problem... terrible hissing sound in the handset. I'm very disappointed in AT&T.
