The standard by which all other vacuums should be measured,
This review is from: SEBO 9559AM Automatic X4 EXTRA Upright Vacuum , Red (Kitchen)
I have never used a better vacuum cleaner than the Sebo. It has excellent sustained suction and the automatic height adjustment is a godsend for my lower back. The included turbo cleaning head brings floor cleaning power to your fingertips over furniture and in the car. It glides over tile and hardwood flooring, medium pile carpet and several rugs of varying thicknesses in my home. The Sebo has a perfectly balanced weight, making it feel solid yet agile. The lay flat feature of the Sebo makes it ideal for cleaning under beds and tables without having to always move them. The cleaning wand is well thought out in that removing and re-attaching it feels fluid, making changing between cleaning with the floor vacuum and using the extended reach wand effortless. We have an indoor pet and my child has an allergy to pet dander, but regular use of this vacuum (especially in areas frequented by my pet)has virtually eliminated all of my son's symptoms. The triple lined cleaner bag and filtered, sealed exhaust system removes potential allergens from the environment with great efficiency. Even the wrap points for putting away the cord are higher up on the upright's handle, minimizing the need to bend over to wrap the cord. This vacuum does come at a premium price, but its well thought out ergonomics and superior engineering make it worth every penny.

Sebo X4 Extra,
By CP "CP" (Connecticut USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: SEBO 9559AM Automatic X4 EXTRA Upright Vacuum , Red (Kitchen)
A fine quality, well-performing upright that has met all of our vacuum needs (wall to wall carpet, oriental area rugs, limited bare surface, and upholstery). Unit is relatively compact, which makes it easy to store. It folds completely flat, especially useful when trying to vacuum underneath a bed!
NOTE - This same vacuum is available under different names for significantly lower costs. The exact same machine is available as the "Windsor S12" from commerical/industrial vac retailers; a manual height adjustment version of this vacuum is also available under the "Century 400" brand name. Also,it used to be sold by Sears, as a Kenmore Elite, for far less money. It is no longer available from Sears. You may want to check on Amazon or Ebay for used units first, as they are of high quality so I wouldn't hesitate to buy one used from a reputable seller.

After The Initial Sticker Shock, You Will Love This Vacuum!,

This review is from: SEBO 9559AM Automatic X4 EXTRA Upright Vacuum , Red (Kitchen)
Out of all the vacuum cleaners GoVacuum sells, the Sebo X4 Extra is by far our best upright vacuum. Sebo is a German company, who has been making vacuums since 1969. Sebo also makes vacuum cleaners under the following name brands all over the world; Karcher, Tornado, and Windsor. These machines are built to last forever. One thing that really sets the Sebo far apart from any other upright on the market is the filtration system. The European term for HEPA filtration is S-Class filtration. What makes the Sebo unique is that the main filter to the vacuum is actually before the motor. Every other vacuum cleaner, the main filter is after the motor. Most have some kind of pre-motor filter which is usually made of foam, and really only stops large particles from going in the motor and damaging it. Because the Sebo's S-Class filter is before the motor, this means that ALL dust particles are stopped from going in the motor, even the very fine dust particles which can't be seen by the naked eye. In 6 years of selling Sebo vacuums, GoVacuum has yet to do a warranty repair. We can open up a Sebo that is 5 years old, and because of the filtration system, inside the motor housing is 100% dust free. Most vacuums during servicing have a lot of very fine dust all over the motor. Most upright vacuums don't perform on bare floors very well. Upright vacuums are really designed to clean carpets. The Sebo is the exception to the rule. The automatic height adjustment on the X series, automatically adjusts the head of the machine down when taken to bare floors. This machine does a great job and ANY type of flooring because of this feature. Even delicate oriental rugs are no problem. Most other machines you have to fight with the rug, and try and stradle the rug while you vacuum at the same time. Because of the auto height adjustment, the Sebo cleans oriental rugs with graceful ease. Please see the video we have put.

I Should Have Bought This Vacuum Three Pets Ago,
By One Tough Customer (PA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: SEBO 9559AM Automatic X4 EXTRA Upright Vacuum , Red (Kitchen)
I cycled through several stages of cheap-vacuum ownership (denial, anger, bargaining, grief....) before finally dropping $800 on this Sebo. Until it entered my life, I had no idea how heavy, loud, awkward, and ineffective my (very highly rated in Consumer Reports) previous vacuum was. We considered a Dyson but it felt cheaply made, and reviews were quite uneven. This Sebo just rocks. The tools are wonderful, and the machine feels like it's propelling itself across the floor. Dog hair: gone. Best of all, it automatically changes heights when I move from carpet to hardwood to tile. Expensive, but if it lasts as half as long as it's supposed to, I will consider it money well spent - especially for a two-career family with grade-schoolers, a furry dog, and limited time to spend on cleaning.

Two years and loving it!,
By
This review is from: SEBO 9559AM Automatic X4 EXTRA Upright Vacuum , Red (Kitchen)
I've now owned my Sebo for two years and I still love it. My first vacuum was a cheap Hoover; it did okay but my sweet father-in-law killed it when he used it to clean up after a construction project. My second vacuum was a commercial Sanitaire. It lasted over 25 years and was a real workhorse, but it was noisy and heavy and didn't have a wand. My son killed it when he tried to vacuum up a canvas belt and destroyed the vacuum's belt and burned up the motor. Repairing it would have cost nearly as much as buying a new one. I spent months researching vacuums before settling on a Sebo and it has been a great purchase. Very expensive but I expect it to last at least another 20-30 years. My home is half carpet and half tile and I use the Sebo to vacuum up both. It adjusts height automatically and does a very thorough job on both surfaces. It is quieter than the Sanitaire but both are fairly heavy vacuums. If you have shoulder problems you may want to look for something lighter (such as the Sebo Felix). I particularly love the telescoping hose. It reaches 8 ft. and I have an extension hose that allows me to climb up a tall ladder and clean second-story window sills and wall hangings. I don't recommend the stair and upholstery turbo brush as an add-on; it really doesn't clean well and I prefer to just use the vacuum and wand on my stairs. (Here again the Felix would be a better and lighter vacuum for this purpose). I'm amazed how long it takes to fill the bag to the replace line and the belt is guaranteed to last the life of the vacuum. It also has an automatic shut-off if you try to vacuum up a canvas belt, like my son did, so the motor won't fry. It lays down flat and has a low profile so it can reach under furniture. It is recommended for allergy sufferers because of it's great HEPA filtration system and it really sucks up the dog hair after my son and his dog have visited. I love this vacuum!

Buy one but shop around first,
By shopper "blue light" (hawaii) - See all my reviews

I've owned an X4 for a couple years now. I paid somewhere around $500 for it new in Hawaii, but mine doesn't have a turbo brush attachment. Check around on prices because all you really need is the X4 -- it comes with a wand, a crevice tool, and a brush clipped on to the handle. Hundreds of dollars for the color red and a turbo brush? SEBO is better than a Miele because you'll actually use it often. The canister vacs are too complicated to whip in and out of the closet to do a 5 min. vacuum. The SEBO is easy to whip around in a condo or small hourse. Don't get the elngated head -- it will make turning too tricky. Stay with the standard size unless you're doing hotel hallways. The X4 is the best because of the automatic level feature. I go from kitchen floor to deep pile rug without missing a beat. The bag system is better than Miele if you ask me (my brother has a Miele Pearl -- but seldom vacuums because of having to use the hose, the head, the canister etc.)

great vacuum,

This review is from: SEBO 9559AM Automatic X4 EXTRA Upright Vacuum , Red (Kitchen)
We have had this vacuum for a few weeks and we really like it alot. It has great suction and adjusts automatically to any surface. I even use it to vacuum my ceramic tiles. It is very light for a vacuum cleaner this powerful and has a long cord. I can clean my whole bottom floor with out having to change electrical outlets. It folds down flat to clean under beds and coffee tables which is a nice feature. It is very well built, I don't think I will have to replace it every 5 years like my other vacs. We also have a cocker spaniel that sheds alot and the Sebo does an excellent job of picking up hair. The bags are expensive, but we had a bagless vac last time and the hastle of emptying out the dust cup and sometimes spilling it inside my home made it worth it to me to pay for the bags.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SEBO 9559AM Automatic X4 EXTRA Upright Vacuum , Red (Kitchen)
I bought this vacuum to replace a Kirby. I've had my Kirby for more than 15 years, and it still works great, don't think it will ever die. However, over the years I have been replacing my carpet with hard floors, and now I only have carpet in the 3 bedrooms. I have 7 dogs and have to vaccum A LOT. Dragging the Kirby around on the hard floors and changing out attachments (none of which attach to the Kirby when not in use) for the carpet and furniture was a pain. I finally decided I needed a vaccum that better met my needs. I researched quite a bit and decided on the Sebo and I am thrilled with it. vacuuming takes me about half as much time now, I easily go from one room to another and if I decide to use the wand it is right there. The Sebo picks up dirt and hair on the hard floors much better than the Kirby did. As far as cost, it is less than I paid for my Kirby, which came with many attachments I didn't need and never used. If I go another 15 years before buying another vacuum I can't complain.

Still going strong after one year - dog fur and all,
This review is from: SEBO 9559AM Automatic X4 EXTRA Upright Vacuum , Red (Kitchen)
We have three large furry dogs (over 70 lbs each)and have never had, until now, a vacuum cleaner that could handle the fur and dirt they bring in. We had been using Hoover's Windtunnel. They had awesome suction power, were bagless, and self propelled. But every single one (we've had three) broke down within 3-6 mos. It's like they were too strong for their own good. Well, I got tired of spending $[...]bucks every 3-6 mos and decided to get a REAL vacuum cleaner. I wanted a Dyson, but after looking at it in person, I didn't like its weird configuration and awkward handling. The sales guy said, try this - and pointed to the Sebo. It was sleek, easy to handle, had thoughtful user features (eg: they include caps with the bags, so when it comes time to dispose, you can cap the openings so you don't get a face full of dust, the cord is SUPER long compared to the Windtunnel - no more having to stop vacuuming because the cord doesn't reach, the roller brush slides out easily for cleaning - no more dismantling sessions with screwdrivers and pinched fingers!). Then I looked at the price - OMG $800 for a VACUUM CLEANER!? But heck, I'd already spent around $900 in less than a year with all the Windtunnels I'd bought. I ended up getting the SEBO. I thought I'd hate dealing with bags again, but with the Sebo it's no problem - unlike the bagless Windtunnel where I had to dump the little canister after every room - I can go five entire house vacuumings before having to empty the Sebo bag - and it's NOT because the Sebo is doing a poor job - it's doing a great job! I thought I'd regret it not being self-propelled - but the Sebo is so light and powerful, it doesn't need to be. It's been over a year with the Sebo and haven't had a single problem. Am I happy - you bet!

Great for carpet, not as great on hard surfaces or detail work,
By
This review is from: SEBO 9559AM Automatic X4 EXTRA Upright Vacuum , Red (Kitchen)
We've had our Sebo for 5-6 years and bought it for a fully carpeted house with very limited hardwood/tile. It was amazing, it is really an excellent vacuum with exceptional parts and performance on carpet. It does adjust to go on hardwood, but it doesn't really do a great job there, also, the standard attachements aren't designed to help you vacuum on any hard surface, just for occasional detail work (short reach, no hard floor attachment). Now that I'm living in a house with primarily hardwoods, I'm looking for a different player as it's not designed to be efficient in this environment.
