Another classic gem!,

When I bought this CD, I automatically knew that Dieselboy would come through with his precise beat matching and good taste in the selections. I constantly hear people trying to put down Dieselboy-saying this and that about his techniques on the decks but I'm sure in due time that everyone will realize that he's one of the best drum'n'bass DJ's this side of the Atlantic! I would also recommend everyone to add his first release "Drum'n'Bass Selection USA" and "Soldier's Story" to their collection of dnb CD's.

I've been an avid fan of drum and bass for about 2 years now. I've accumulated about all the good drum and bass cd's in the past past couple of years and Deiselboy is definitely my favorite. No one compares to his dark, hard track selection and his mastery of execution on the decks. After wearing my Soldier's Story and System Upgrade cd's out, I realized waiting for another one could take too long, and so I decided to back track and buy 97 Octane. The cd is absolutely tight with Deiselboy running the gambit on the darkest drum and bass of the time. Get ready as the cd begins with a count down to blast off as Deiselboy submerges you into the depths of his twisted bass lines and fast tech-step. The first half of the cd gets spirits lifted high with uppy drum and bass and the latter half lays waste to all but the most enduring dancers with deep snakey bass and highs off some other planet. Certain tracks on the last half of the cd reminds me of AK 1200's Fully Automatic if you're familiar with the sound AK pushes on that particular album. Keep in mind, it's a tad on the old school side, but as the title indicates, this is from '97. Any drum and bass lover definitely gets my recommendation on buying this album. A must buy for anyone who digs it dark and loud.

phat cd, done well. It's slow lift off countdown obtains your attention as dieselboy attacks you with no remorse with is killer beats in this CD. every song shows dieselboys exceptional talent, no other drum n' bass DJ puts down beats as well as this guy. All dieselboy's stuff is worth checking out, especially this one so get this ONE FOR SURE. if are you a junglistic man or woman, PROPS.

i've gotta agree with the speaker blowin comments...i've killed one of my car speakers and a boombox with this album (beware of substance - lf ant):P. If you've never heard a dieselboy album or seen him spin live, start out with this one. i've been listening to it for 5 years, and it still holds my attention from start to finish. superb mix-n-blend, wicked sub bass, and aggressive but not overly frenetic breaks make this a great driving album (almost as fun to drive to as dance to). big ups to mista higgins for holdin it down proper.

i must be missing something,

only in recent years have i gotten into drum and bass after listening to industrial metal (ie ministry) and progressive trance and deep trance on the techno side. i heard 6th Session through a friend, taped it, and really enjoyed it. i later decided to get Dungeionmasters Guide, which remains my favorite D and B album. But i wanted more and scouted the internet (ie Amazon) for some recommendations. After reading the plentiful praising reviews for 97 Octane, it sounded like a mix i had to have.
After having this CD for a couple months now and listening to it enough to get an honest feel for it, i must say i'm very disappointed. Outside of 4 or 5 tracks on the first half on the album, it does nothing for me. When trying to figure out why---i realize it's because it's too simple and basic. It's essentially JUST basslines and various cymbal hits....not like Dungeonmasters or 6th Session that seem to have more going on, more commotion if you will. For this reason, i find 97 Octane a pretty boring listen. I need a greater wall of sound, a greater variety of sounds, and a higher-energy feel than this provides for me. I've not given up on Dieselboy, as i'm now awaiting the arrival of Project Human, which i hope yields a better opinion. But this is one i don't expect to listen to very often.

Alright..lets not play here. We all know diesel is the man...he rinses parties out worldwide. Hes my favorite DJ handsdown...and in my opinion is the best stateside selector. But anyways...about this cd. I own A LOT of mixtapes..but you just cant touch this one. This mix is so on point...the track selection is perfect. the mix starts with dancfloor drivin tracks...then diesel takes it DEEP! I recommnend this cd for ANYONE. if you have no CLUE about junlge..get this cd! If youre a jungle head like myself..you should have owned this years ago ;)

Before Dieselboy revolutionized dark drum-and-bass with 6ixth Session, projectHUMAN, and Dungeonmaster's Guide, he was known as a DJ in the techstep genre. And he was one of the genre's masters. 97 Octane was the best album of his techstep era and one of the genre's very best, if not THE best. Twelve songs, each about five minutes apiece and they are put together in mix form. This is one of Dieselboy's very best mixes and I have most of his albums. Techstep sounds like jungle with heavy basslines thrown in here and there. If you are familiar with hardcore techno and want to expand your horizons a little bit, I highly recommend this. 97 Octane was released in the most abundant year in electronica history, 1997, and the album was a highlight, although it was underrated compared to some of the more popular albums of that year such as Chemical Brothers' Dig Your Own Hole and Roni Size's New Forms. In my opinion, this album is even better than New Forms because there is no filler on the album. Roni Size is not as good at mixing as Dieselboy and Dieselboy uses less vocals on his albums, making him the superior DJ. In my opinion, this is the best drum-and-bass album of the 90's. Later on, Dieselboy would expand his sound and rival the impressiveness level with projectHUMAN and Dungeonmaster's Guide, but 97 Octane is the album where his ambition first took off in exhilirating fashion and revealed his potential. Great DnB CD,

When I was first introduced to Damien, I wasn't that big of a fan of the whole electronic scene, whether the music was trance, house, DnB, etc, I wasn't to into it, didn't listen to it much. Then my friend told me to give this CD a listen, and I was amazed. I instantly started downloading and buying techno and other electronic styles of music. I have to say this is by far my favorite or second favorite electronic cd in my collection. I recommend this cd to . . . anyone, really. That's how much I enjoy it.
