As a teenager I worked in a bakery, frying doughnuts for the morning customers. This meant I had to be at work by 3 a.m. Often I would drag in thirty minutes late, half-asleep and disheveled. My boss, Sandy, would shake his head and say, “You know, any old fool can go to bed at night, but it takes a real man to get up in the morning.”

I must have heard that phrase a hundred times, but never really understood it until I went into business for myself. It’s a principle as simple as it is timeless–one that every successful person has learned in one form or another. Knowing what you need to do and doing it are not the same things.

Almost all of us have a desire to earn extra income for our family or to at least make the best possible choices when it comes to money. We want to be wise about how we use our time, talents, and resources. We long for the day we can give more, worry less, and be financially independent. And we know that there are steps we need to follow in order to achieve those goals. As the Bible proverb advises, “Take good counsel and accept correction–that’s the way to live wisely and well” (Proverbs 19:20).

If you want wisdom on finances, this little book just may be your first step toward doing what you know needs to be done in order to move forward. There are thousands of ways
to increase your family income, but you need only a few of them to succeed. Included here are ninety-nine tried-and true ideas to get you started. It’s not an exhaustive list–just a few thoughts worth getting up in the morning for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book Review of 99 Ways to Increase Your Income November 13, 2010
Have you been downsized? Are you looking for some tips on making extra income? Money is tight these days for many people. 99 Ways to Increase Your Income by Frank Martin, successful entrepreneur and director of Furious Faith Ministries, offers a range of possibilities for you.

This is a small book, only 112 pages, but it contains ideas that perhaps you have not considered. All ninety-nine ideas are grouped by section making it easy for you to find the type of increases the author mentions.

Each of the seven sections begin with a key Scripture and follow with the numbered ideas and end with a summary or recap page for that section.

If you serious about increasing your income this book is a good choice. It doesn't offer just types of jobs that will increase your income. It also includes tips like using debit cards to track expenses making it easier to analyze and reconcile online, steering clear of junk food because of the increased health cost, and identifying your area of expertise and entering the consultant business.

This is a good choice for those needing a compiled list of options. It is a small investing (less than $10.00) and if any of the ideas generate extra income for you, it is certainly pays for itself. It would also make a perfect gift for a friend of loved one facing hard financial times. I recommend it highly.

3.0 out of 5 stars inexpensive book to help with iincreasing come February 15, 2010
I have read many books on trying to increase income or making money. While this book is a great beginning book, it was repetitious to me. I personally did not get too many new ideas from this book. If you have not read much about increasing your income I think this is a great book to read. It is an easy read and fairly inexpensive. At least you do not have to spend a lot to get some good ideas. Kind of tried and true.

They say the big things come in small packages. The same is true for this little book. Only 102 pages & 7 chapters long, but it is filled and overflowing with a wealth of ideas.

Want to make a little spending money? Maybe you would like to rake in a substantial extra income, or need a little guidance on how to make your money grow. Frank Martin gives plenty of ways for all of those options. The great thing is they are simple ideas that don't take a genius to figure out how to follow. I've tried a few of them, and they work!

Take a little time to pick it up and read it, and then follow through. With the help of this little book, you can earn some extra cash, and make your money work for you!

4.0 out of 5 stars Things I knew and things I wish I knew December 3, 2009
I had the pleasure of reviewing the book and I was able to read through this rather quickly. This book touts that it will show you how to generate more money and save more cash. My humble opinion is that this book is full of common sensical things we all should know, on the bright side there are easy to read paragraphs in this book that makes for a quick resource. My only problem was the resources.

As someone who Googles her information a lot, I suppose I shouldn't complain about the amount of resources provided in this book, or lack thereof. For instance here are some tips that stuck out for me:

Tip #59 Blogging for Pay. This is great advice for people always on the internet anyway, but I was hoping for a list of places that actually allows you to earn for blogging. He says his friend is a history buff and is being paid to blog on "some site" dealing with history facts, well what is this site's name? I really wanted to know. Again, I Google so perhaps I should seek that out myself.

Tip# 10 Establish an Emergency Fund at least 3 to 6 months of your salary worth. Well, what a fine idea! The only problem is I don't make much to be stashing money and not using it. I am not an entrpreneur like Frank Martin, or a star, nor any other high paying, high profile money maker who can set aside 6 months salary. Again, maybe a little I can stash and I am grateful for the advice nonetheless.

Tip#29 Craigslist. I am so done with Craigslist it isn't funny. Which is why I am glad Frank Martin mentions ebay and Amazon more than once as other sources to buy used items and to sell. In my opinion Craigslist is not filled with serious buyers or sellers and he lucked up to have bought a car online through Craigslist, but I am skeptical.

Everyone I know needs more money in this economy. With Christmas around the corner, the pressure to spend money on gifts may be overwhelming. 99 Ways to Increase Your Income might help you with gift giving this year if you have something worth selling immediately. However, I recommend reading this book to help you start the new year off with a refreshed financial outlook.

99 Ways to Increase Your Income offers useful hints on increasing your income or managing the money you already have. I've heard this information before, but it never hurts to refresh my memory and renew my commitment to wise money management.

As the back of the book boasts, "With ideas ranging from asking for extra hours in your current job, to selling your "junk" at a consignment store or on Craigslist, to starting a home-based pet grooming service, to saving money by smart use of the Internet, this book will help you earn and keep more cash."

I especially liked the idea of finding a consignment store to sell gently used clothing. Recently, I collected bags of like-new clothing my son refuses to wear any more. Some of it never worn. Kids!

He now buys his own clothes from money earned from an after-school job, but I bought those bagged clothes and intend to see something back from it. If I receive enough money to buy a book or two, I'll be happy.

I recommend reading or gifting this book to anyone wanting to begin 2010 in the right financial direction.
