Editorial Reviews

At last a 'proper' CD re-issue for 999's legendary debut album which includes the singles "Me And My Desire", "Emergency", "I'm Alive" and the quite brilliant "Nasty Nasty". Sleeve notes and a full set of lyrics are all part of the packaging for this album that really should be an integral part of everyone's collection.

999's debut is one of THE best of the UK set from the '77/'78 period....It's it's own Best Of...every song is amazing. 999 was a very overlooked band....The Buzzcocks got most of the credit for the quick and catchy 2 min. power pop song. 999 was in the same vein, but a bit tougher/more 'street.' Been listening to this since 1980, still love it to death. The Capt. Oi. cd has all the b-sides and sounds amazing.....GET THIS ASAP and Separates, 999's 2nd album if you like this period of music. OI!

Ah - the term 'forgotten classic'. May as well get it out of the way now, rather than just repeating it endlessly about this essential Punk album. It's well played, well made - power pop at it's very best. Anyone starting a garage or bedroom guitar band should buy this album immediately - there's nothing too flash or over produced here, but everything is so clean, great scales basslines, the most solid of rythm guitar, snappy drums. Play along! Nick Cash's whining vocals are at their best on Titanic (My Over) Reaction in my humble opinion - and 999 never try to over punk it. Here are songs with integrity and a real sense of youthful exuberance. stick it on, leap about for a bit, smile, cheer and put it on again. Bloody good stuff! If you've got the Pistols, Damned and Clash records kicking about, why haven't you got this?

Este disco representa a verdadeira cena "punk" londrina nos idos de 78. Canções como "destination" e "me and my desire" chegam ao extremo da perfeição. Subs", "Anti-Nowhere League/Anti-Nowhere League" e "Can't Stand Rezillos/Rezillos".

this was one of the best punk albums to come out in 1977 in the uk, this captain oi reissue from 15 years ago is remastered to perfection and also gives you none lp bonus tracks from 1977 as well, 999 toured the us as far back as 1979 and played all over the us and even recorded a live album here, sadly they did not seem to leave much of a mark like there peers did and i belive they came back in the early 80s a couple of times but that was it, i got into this band in 1979 as an older neighbor was a real rocker at the time and he had this record, i loved it then and went out and bought this lp in an import section at the then local record shop and i sure wore out the grooves, anyway fast foward to 36 years later and here i am buying this for the third time as this first came out on that dojo label back in 1991 but there was no bonus tracks, also the remastering is much better with captain oi and the booklets that come with captain oi reissues are just so informative, i still love these guys almost a lifetime later, i enjoyed everything they did from 1977 to 1981 and for me it ended with the concrete record in 1981, i love the mix of punk and power pop the 999s gave us, this sounds as fresh to me now as it did all those decades ago when i first heard this........

There are some standout songs but overall I find 999 to be second rate compared to their contemporaries like the Buzzcocks or Stiff Little Fingers. Maybe their singles collection is better? They had some classic songs but their albums just aren't memorable overall.
