Ever since I saw Mr Miyagi in the Karate Kid meticulously pruning his Bonsai tree with a pair of toenail clippers I've wanted one of these cute little trees.

When it arrived I was immediately impressed. It looked just like the picture here on Amazon. Well packaged & healthy. Many months later its still going strong. It even grew enough so that I had the opportunity to break out the toenail clippers & have some fun. If you're into that sort of thing, this is a great little tree. If not it makes a great gift. Either way I think you'll be happy.

UPDATE I
Two years later & the same little tree is still going strong.

UPDATE II
Four years later sadly I must report my favorite little tree is no more. She began drying out over the Winter, no amount of watering seemed to help. I attribute this to low humidity & it possibly being too close to the baseboard heating. Who knows though? *shrug* I can't really complain. For the price I payed I received many years of enjoyment. Will probably buy another come the holidays.

I received this bonsai as a gift. I was very wary at first, because I have killed numerous bonsai in the past, but this one was different. Well established, it thrived even when I forgot to water it for a few days. It has a healthy growth, a nice planter which comes with it, and a decorative rock. I would definately recommend this bonsai for those who really want to try a bonsai but haven't had much luck in the past!

Fast shipping, and looked healthy and full when unpacked. I had gotten another bonsai (looked similar, a small juniper) at a garden expo, and it was dead within a month. This new plant is luscious after two months, just followed the simple instructions. I used the tiny ceramic Japanese man from my first plant with this second one, and he obviouly likes sitting under this beautiful one much better!

I ordered 3 bonsai from 9GreenBox after doing quite a bit of research (I'm a librarian). One for me, one for my 13 year old step-son, and one for my husband. They arrived on April 16th, 2013, impressively packaged (I live in Alaska!) with damp soil and in very good shape. My husband didn't water his enough in the beginning (he thought I was watering it!) and his died within the first month. The other two are thriving. I pruned mine into an interesting shape right away, while my step-son waited and just let his do its own thing. His (pictured in the customer provided photos section with our grey cat Osiris) has had a lot of new growth in the 4 months that we've owned it. It was kind of round with a curved trunk to start, and with the new growth it looks more like a bonsai with the needles stretching out on both sides. Mine doesn't look as nice, but it still looks great. I'm hoping to wire it soon, so that the branches on one side start to grow in the opposite direction.

My advice would be to leave it alone for the first few months before starting to prune/wire it up. As for watering, we thoroughly water them as soon as the soil seems to be completely dried out. We didn't want to over water them. We keep them on a sunny window ledge. Obviously when there are many sunny days in a row, we end up watering them more often then when it's damp and cool out. You just have to check on them every couple of days when it's sunny, and once a week or so when it's not sunny. That's about it. We haven't fertilized them or anything yet, though I may start giving them a little Miracle Grow once a month or so. I know there's special bonsai fertilizer but hopefully I can make due with Miracle Grow or equivalent. Anyway, bottom line I would highly recommend getting a bonsai from this company. We have had countless pleasure from taking care of and admiring our little trees!

As the title states, I was one of the unfortunates to receive a "twiggy" way out of shape, weed. The cost with shipping wasn't worth it. With that said, I'm going to attach a photo, give it a year and re-attach the "New and improved" Bonsai. I love challenges and it's going to be a huge challenge indeed. I was sent a juniper that in NO WAY could be close to a year old. NOT EVEN CLOSE to a three year old specimen, as advertised (false advertising!!!).

This is the first bonsai tree I ever bought. I didn't really know it was possible to mail plants. I thought they'd die without sunlight and all a lot quicker. You know? However, it came and I was pretty excited to see it wasn't even in that bad shape. The bonsai trees are small, which I liked. I can't wait for like 3o years to pass when I can see how much prettier it looks. I'm excited to watch it grow. I'm glad I got it in the beginning of it's life.

Anyways I've had it about two weeks and the bit of yellowish color and dead looking parts are gone(there was a slight yellow hue on a bit of it). It's just been growing really great. I just hope I can keep it alive and make it pretty. I sort of wish I could upload a picture so everybody could see what mine looks like. Anyways, if you are thinking about buying a tree from them don't worry or anything. They've got good trees and you won't regret it.
