Book Description

RECOMMENDED FOR READERS 18 AND UP DUE TO STRONG LANGUAGE, SEXUAL SITUATIONS, AND MILD VIOLENCE.

What happens when you lose everyone that promised they would always be there for you? How can you protect the few pieces of your shattered heart that remain?

Olivia Adler is a woman with a troubled past. After losing her parents at the young age of six and being raised by an uncle who she lost years later, she refuses to get attached to anyone, including friends. For the past decade, she has been able to remain unattached to any man, too worried about losing someone to get too close. Until Alexander Burnham walks into her life one night and changes everything. But he has issues of his own. And he’s keeping a secret that could turn her world upside-down. Will Olivia let Alexander in enough for him to get close and protect her from a force threatening her very existence, or will she push him away, scared of letting Alexander in, in order to protect her heart?

A Beautiful Mess is the first installment of a three part series sure to captivate the heart with a story of secrets, courage, and love.

About the Author

T.K. Leigh, otherwise known as Tracy Leigh Kellam, is the USA Today Best Selling author of the Beautiful Mess series. Originally from New England, she now resides in sunny Southern California with her husband, dog and three cats, all of which she has rescued (including the husband). She always had a knack for writing, but mostly in the legal field. It wasn't until recently that she decided to try her hand at creative writing and is now addicted to creating different characters and new and unique story lines in the Contemporary Romantic Suspense genre.

When she's not planted in front of her computer, writing away, she can be found running and training for her next marathon (of which she has run over fifteen fulls and far too many halfs to recall). Unlike Olivia, the main character in her Beautiful Mess series, she has yet to qualify for the Boston Marathon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Debut Novel August 30, 2013
By Pamela
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
- SPOILER ALERT!!! -

"A Beautiful Mess" is T.K. Leigh's debut novel and what a truly amazing read it is. I loved everything about it from the story to the complex characters, Alexander and Olivia. The chemistry Alexander and Olivia have right from the beginning is off the charts hot! I loved that the author didn't have them jumping into bed the first time they met; even better, no declarations of "I love you" within days of meeting. Instead, she continues to build the sexual tension between the two, that is so palpable, right up until they finally give in to their sexual desires. Alexander is my kind of alpha-male; not one who is over the top demanding and controlling.

"People only have to call me Mr. Burnham in the bedroom."

"I'm sure I'd enjoy the sound of you out of breath as well, just as long as it were my doing."

"I can't wait to have that mouth on me."

"By the time I'm through sweeping you off your feet, you will be bursting at the seams, begging me to f--- you, never wanting another man inside you again."

Talk about a total turn-on. Very erotic indeed.

My biggest issue? It's part of another bloody series. Talk about frustrating at having to wait for books 2 and 3, both of which won't be available until next year. What's even worse? Knowing that others have had the privilege of having read books 2 and 3 already. Talk about unfair! I knew what I was getting into when it said "Beautiful Mess, Book 1." I just didn't think I'd love it as much as I did. I'm screwed as I know I'm looking forward to reading the next two novels. Seriously, I have absolutely no patience when it comes to waiting for sequels to become available. My list just keeps growing and growing. And yeah, I recommend this book to all those who love a good romance.

The inconsistencies in the character personalities are astounding. The author would say a character was one way but all the evidence did not support that. For example, Alexander is a Navy SEAL, therefore, due to his training and experience I'm assuming he is constantly aware of his surroundings and collects whatever data/information he can. FALSE! He never reads the letter his father left for him (regarding Olivia, I'm assuming) which leads us to character flaw #1. A Navy SEAL would always want any information available about a situation so they are more aware and not going in blind. They are TRAINED to think that way. Character flaw #2: When Olivia escapes out the back of her house, Alexander thinks "I didn't know there was a door down here, I've never been downstairs before" Really? A Navy SEAL would've done recon and researched possible escape plans, especially since he knew people were after her. Essentially, way too many personality flaws that didn't make sense. Just because you say a character is one way, doesn't mean they are. As an author you need to show me (which the author failed to do), not tell me.

Here are some parts I highlighted, or thought about while I was reading that didn't make sense:
1) After his first conversation with Adele, Alexander calls her a "b**ch" in his head. Then two pages later his brother says "Oh, you're still talking to that b**ch?" Alexander responds with, "She's not that bad." Ummm, YOU just called her that a page ago...

2) 'Grabbing his cell phone out of his pocket, he saw one more missed text from Olivia. He thought again about responding, but simply couldn't do it.' Where is this coming from? He has never ignored her before, in fact, he responds to her text within seconds. So this didn't make any sense.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful Mess... the perfect title October 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
First, I will say I am not a fan of cliffhangers. At. All. They cause me so much anxiety I find myself "slutting around" on my book boyfriends to just survive. I came across A Beautiful Mess for free when another trilogy left me high and dry(or is it "high and wet" :))Hence, my true story of how I discovered A Beautiful Mess. (another cliffhanger I might add, dang you T.K. Leigh!) You know you are reading a great book when you continually click your kindle screen to get the time and negotiate with yourself that 1:30 in the morning is perfectly normal time to be up reading and you can go for just a little bit longer and still get enough sleep to function the next day. This is that kind of book. It is well written and not only does a great job of explaining the main characters as individuals and their relationship but it also develops side characters relationships as well. You are not left wondering who someone is or how they fit into the story.
Olivia is a character who is fairly easy to like and connect with. Her story of losing her parents at a young age develops more as the story goes on which adds mystery and also keeps you wanting to know more. She has little to no memory of her family to this point but is slowly remembering more each day. Olivia has emotional attachment issues and finds it easier to just have no-strings-attached relationships. When a "fling" goes wrong a piece of her past that could help fill in the gaps in her memory of her parents as well as offer her love steps in, and steps in he does...
Hellloooo Mr. Alexander Burnham! Alexander has his own reasons for leading a life of no-strings-attached relationships as well, and his reason is Olivia. But his Olivia died. Or did she?
