Book Description

When charm and persuasion fail...Only seduction remains...On the night of her betrothal, Lydia Trent receives just a taste of what ecstasy will be at the hands of her fiancé...and then he leaves her wanting. After waiting six years, and tired of being neglected by her exceedingly reluctant husband-to-be, Lydia decides to break it off.
When Marcus, Lord Russell, receives Lydia's letter requesting a release from their contract, he is stunned by her audacity. Confident he'll have her eating out of his hand with his usual wit and charm, he's determined to repair the damage. However, the headstrong woman she's blossomed into is equally determined to thwart his every effort to win her back.
Marcus discovers, in spite of her conviction to end the union, Lydia is more responsive to his touch than he ever imagined. He just needs to get her alone to unleash the promised passion he sees within his wanton virgin. Marcus will use any tool in his arsenal to exploit her weakness--his kisses, his hands, his mouth...her own body. In short, he'll just have to ruin her!

"Reckless hearts, battling wits, and plenty of steam in a wonderfully well drawn Georgian setting."- NYT Bestselling author Grace Burrowes

"Victoria Vane ignites the Georgian era with her delightful characters and deliciously wicked sensuality. Pitting wiles against stubborn wills and innocence against seduction, she leads the reader on a merry chase that will leave you with a grin and a sigh!" ~ Allison Chase, author of Recklessly Yours

"A talented and skilled author who knows her plot and how to create tasteful sexy scenes. This isn't a story focused on the sexual acts between the characters, but much more, a story about the hero and heroine's life. She's created a novella with a lot of depth, and it's only her debut title! I expect great things to come from Victoria Vane!"

"This story was quite the surprise. With erotic historical romance you don't really expect much in the way of deep plot and characterizations...Let alone one rich in historical Victoria Vane has delivered a story with historical richness yet one that does not overwhelm the romance nor the delectable love scenes. This beautifully written novella has it all. Historical depth, romance, lush love scenes and gorgeous prose befitting the era. Highly recommended."- 4.5 STARS HEART TO HEART ROMANCE REVIEWS

From the Author

A Breach of Promise by Victoria Vane

As an author of several sub-genres of historical fiction it is my belief that to truly understand a given era one must study the popular culture of the times, and nowhere is the mindset of the people more clearly demonstrated than on the stage. It was while reading Hannah Cowley's The Belle's Strategem, one of the most popular of late Georgian era plays, that I was inspired to write A BREACH OF PROMISE.

While The Belle's Stratagem juxtaposes two different story lines, the essential theme concerns men learning to respect the women in their lives both before and after marriage. This theme of respect is closely mirrored in my erotic historical novella, A BREACH OF PROMISE.

Like Cowley's play, the premise of my story is an engagement contracted by the hero and heroine's parents when they were very young. Also similar is that my own hero, Marcus, like Cowley's Doricourt, has been many years travelling abroad and has recently returned to England a handsome, fashionable, and much sought after bachelor, but one who has learned to appreciate continental beauty and manners far above those of his own countrywomen.

Cowley's Leticia is smitten by her erstwhile finance but dismayed by his apparent indifference to her charms and vows to "win his heart or never be his wife." The unusual stratagem employed to win him over is based on the belief that it is "easier to convert a sentiment into its opposite than to transform indifference into tender passion." These circumstance and sentiments closely match those of my own heroine, Lydia Trent in A BREACH OF PROMISE. Determined to rebuff the arrogant and conceited Marcus at every turn, Lydia wages a battle royale only to discover she is defenseless against his counter-strategy of seduction.

With scorching sensuality combined with humor, witty dialogue and colorful characters, I promise a fun and engaging read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Debut!!! April 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Historical Romances are where most readers started when they jumped out of the classics. I have a fondness for this particularly category because it allowed me an escape from this time for many years. But I just love the newer historical romances!! Gone are the quivering and cowering virgins and in waltz the new age girls decked out in old-fashion attire! I would like to imagine that there were many heroic women back then, and Lydia would be an excellent example. She is promised to Lord Russell at an early age, since the mothers of the two in question were as close as sisters. A union between the houses was a much anticipated event. Lydia was also extremely excited by her good fortune because Marcus was very handsome and charming. The night their engagement was to be officially announced, Marcus arrives horribly late and Lydia is completely crushed. Marcus offers to take Lydia for a stroll in the gardens, which turns into a wickedly yummy scenario unfolding on a swing. But after that fateful night that leaves Lydia on cloud nine and dreaming of him every night, he never comes to call. Six long years have passed and Lydia has finally had enough. She puts pen to paper to inform her reluctant groom that she wishes to break off the engagement. But will she wiggle out of this so easily?

Marcus had been busy trying to secure a name for himself . True, he had no wish to marry, but he did not object to the thought of marrying Lydia. He had good intentions in the beginning, that soon rose into being unable to face her because of guilt. Six years was a bit long but he had every intentions of keeping his promise and marrying her, eventually. So when the letter arrived while he was in town about her wish to break off the engagement, Marcus was shocked.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised January 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Lydia Trent is at first thrilled to find herself engaged to Marcus, Lord Russell, and they share some hot and heavy breathing on the night of their engagement, but then he high tails it off to work overseas. One year becomes two, then three and finally it's been six years and Lady Lydia wants to void the marriage contract, dump her fiancé and move on with life - but Marcus isn't about to let go.

"If I am freed, my life will become a purgatory of simpering debutantes."

That sounds like a fate worse than death ;) Marcus returns home to claim his bride, but Lydia isn't too willing and he determines to seduce her into acceptance - and if that doesn't work he'll ruin her!

Full disclosure, erotica is not a genre I've read and while I knew full well going into this what to expect I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not, but I was pleasantly surprised. First off we get a Georgian setting instead of the ubiquitous Regency (they are so old). Second, we get a story with characters that are not just wall-paper window dressing. Third, we get a heroine that not only isn't TSTL (too stupid to live), she's not one with 21C morals and mindsets. Thank you Ms. Vane for not insulting the reader's intelligence.

All in all, this novella was a quick, entertaining and seriously steamy read. I hope to see more from Ms. Vane in the future. 4/5 stars.

FTC disclosure, a copy obtained via Kindle loan.

4.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL! A BREACH OF PROMISE BY VICTORIA VANE.... January 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
A BREACH OF PROMISE by Victoria Vane is an exciting erotic historical romance set in Georgian England. What's not to enjoy when passion, sensuality, trust, mistrust, possible ruin, rich historical romance and love. This is the story of Marcus,Lord Russell and Lydia Trent. Lydia betrothed at seventeen to a reluctant groom to be finds one night of ecstasy is might be enough, but after six long years, ecstary is no longer enough. A fast paced, quick read. You will not regret "A Breach of Promise". It has hot steamy passion, and forgiveness as well as love and romance. A must read for anyone who enjoys historical romance, erotic romance,or a quick fun read that will leave you in awe. I look forward to future erotic historical romances from Victoria Vane. Victoria Vane also writes an non-erotic romantic historical fiction as Emery Lee.Received for an honest review from the author. 4.0 out of 5 stars I Learned Something New.... December 27, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is an erotic historical romance. I was told it was slightly "Heyer-esque." I'm not sure what that means, but I thought "Georgette Heyer," the famous author of books in the Georgian era. I hate Heyer, so it was with much trepidation that I picked this up.

It's cute, witty, and the sex is very erotic. I also learned a lot of new words, thus it was somewhat like Heyer. However, the real and very dead Heyer used as many complicated and head scratching words as possible in one sentence. Vane just throws in one per page. I actually enjoyed using my kindle dictionary to find the meanings and found myself trying to use them in a sentence when speaking to my dog. LOL I also learned new things to call the female anatomy. LOL

Not bad at all. For historical erotic romance, it was good. I recommend it. Check it out. It's a one day read, not a door stopper. It's not overly descriptive, nor does it pontificate endlessly.

Favorite quote: "To my understanding a man can perform the animal act of coition in virtually any circumstance without emotional engagement of any kind." *snort* LOL
