5.0 out of 5 stars A score full of life, November 13, 2002

Brandon Cutro (Tyler, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Randy Newman does it again with A Bug's Life. His previous efforts were the Toy Story scores, but this one clearly outdoes them both and is some of the best music written for a Disney film. The music itself is part jazz, part big band, and orchestral. The orchestral is by far the best of the three. The song "The Time of Your Life" written and performed by Randy Newman himself is an upbeat catchy tune that he has a knack for writing. The main theme is a heroic melody that is heard in "Flik Leaves", "Return to the Colony", "Flik's Return", "Victory" and "A Bug's Life Suite", which contains a bit of all the orchestral music in the score. The big band stuff is found in "Flik Machine" and "The City". The jazz part is heard in the song "The Time of Your Life" and pops up now and then, especially at the beginning of "Flik Leaves". The action music is superb and blows you out of your seat. It is present in "Red Alert", "Robin Hood", "Dot's Rescue", "Grasshoppers' Return", "The Bird Flies", and "The Ants Fight Back", as well as parts of "A Bug's Life Suite". The action music is dominated by a powerful brass section and snare drums. This soundtrack has a little something for everyone for all ages. It's got swinging jazz, groovy big band tunes, and powerful orchestral music. A must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good, Solid Disney Score, March 28, 2001
It's solid, and some of the cues really sweep you up, but this is Disney, remember. However, don't get me wrong, Disney has a tradition of fantastic scores, and this one doesn't really disappoint... It's a good, solid score, and if you liked the film, you should definately get this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelent, November 27, 1998

This review is from: A Bug's Life (Audio CD)
The cd has great music the kids like the songs and the beats to the songs. I have 14 kids living in my house and people say I am a nut case to have had all those kids. But I love kids. Especially when you turn on the great music like this cd has. I took them to see the movie and it was adorable! If you have listened to the cd or seen the movie you will absolutly want the other. Now my kids listen to the cd 24-7 and I have yet to get sick of it. When the movie is out on vidio we are going to have it on and my kids will practically have their eyes glued to the tv. Why not? They already have their ears glued to the radio. This cd is a have to have cd especially if you have a bundle of kids like I do.

I got the Bug's Life CD a while ago and still like listening to it. It has a catchy song, and several nice jazzy pieces. My favorite tracks are 2, 8, and 14. I hope you can enjoy this too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Something for everyone., July 16, 2000
This soundtrack is one with all kinds of music. The first selection is actually a song with words that everyone can relate to , not just ants. There are many pieces on this CD which sound kind of classical, but not boring. This is an overall great collection of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars A high-flying soundtrack, August 5, 1999
By A Customer
Randy Newman has done it this time. When I listen to this I know who said what at almost every point of the movie and song at once. He makes you feel like you're in the movie....especially "The Bird Flys", It's like you're Flik in the movie flying in the air with the Blueberries.
