Book Description

November 1, 2012
Cat lovers everywhere will wryly recognize their own lives in these whimsical vignettes. Worshipped since ancient times, cats are fickle, capricious and fiendishly clever. Oh, did we mention "vain," "elegant" and "charming"? Life has got to be on their terms or not at all. These willful creatures are masters of our homes, our wallets--and our hearts. By treating us with casual indifference our feline taskmasters keep us in our rightful place. We're just here because someone has to buy the catnip and pay the astronomical heating bills. Call a dog, he'll come running. Call a cat, he'll probably take a message and get back to you later. There's so much we can learn from our feline friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cat cartoons that really did make me laugh out loud December 8, 2012
Format:Hardcover
Gosh, from my Twitter feed someone might draw the conclusion that I'm owned by cats. Well... yeah. So when I was offered a copy of this book of "quirky illustrations that perfectly capture the personality of our feline friends," I had to say Yes. I'm glad I did.

It's a short book of cat drawings with captions that remind me (positively) of the Simon's Cats videos you've seen on YouTube. Honestly, I laughed out loud at several of the comics, enough so that my husband came over to look at what I was giggling at. (Why yes, I certainly can agree that "Cat hair is the new black." Wouldn't you?)

It won't take long for you to breeze through this book; it's perfect "bathroom reading." But it's genuinely funny. I like it, and I think you will, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Will Look Adorable For Food" December 18, 2012
Format:Hardcover
With "A Cat's Life" Gemma Correll has produced a delightful book for cat lovers everywhere. Anyone who knows cats grasps that they define aloofness while being loving, and are supremely clever while being utterly transparent. These dichotomies and many more are brilliantly covered by Correll in simplistic drawings that have frequently hilarious (and occasionally surreal) captions. Don't expect bawdy laughs, but rather expect refined and frequently subtle humor that captures the essence of the finicky nature of our feline friends. Dog lovers will likewise also enjoy the canine cameos (presumably inspired by Correll's own pugs Bella and Mr. Pickles) that frequent the book.

If you truly understand cats you understand that sometimes cats are inexplicable and peculiar beings with their own hierarchy of needs that we are often not privy to. If you take that as truth, then you will enjoy "A Cat's Life."

5.0 out of 5 stars A great gift for cat lovers December 10, 2012
Format:Hardcover
You may be familiar with Gemma Correll's cartoons that appear in the New York Times, Family Circle Magazine, the Huffington Post and on Hallmark Cards. She's a freelance illustrator who currently lives in Norwich, UK with a couple of pugs. If you're a fan you probably follow her blog. She has a sometimes dry, sometimes quirky sense of humor and this book of her cartoons and drawings is a wonderful collection of her work. Her cartoons made me laugh, chuckle and sometimes roll my eyes knowingly. Her cartoons are simple, but capture the personalities of cats that only a cat person can truly appreciate. It's nice to know that it's not only the cats that own us that act this way, but rather the greater population of cats also has these idiosyncrasies. (Or is it just attitude?) A couple of her pugs manage to sneak into a few cartoons, but are generally ignored or ridiculed by the cats. How many cat owners can relate to her, "I re-wrote that essay for you" cartoon showing the cat walking across the laptop's keyboard?

There is a forward written by Seamus Mullarkey in English, French and German. The captions on the cartoons are written in English. The publisher is TeNeues Publishing Group, so you know that the book is beautifully bound on quality paper and would make a lovely gift for any cat lover on your list.
