Typos every other page, technical errors every third page..., September 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A+ Certification Training Kit (Paperback)
Terrible! This book has, literally, typos on every other page! I found so many technical errors, I stopped wasting my highlighters marking them. This book was written by a non-technician/engineer who knew very little about electronics or computers. Save your money -- LOOK ELSEWHERE!!!

not a great starters book, August 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A+ Certification Training Kit (Paperback)
I read this book and within 3 days i returned it to the bookstore. This book firstly has a lot of typos. Then again it is not a great book for beginers in this field. If you want to get A+ certified and have very little prior knowledge of computer hardware then this book is not for you. If you want to know which book is good then buy the 'A+ Certification Exam Guide -- Michael Meyers, Michael Myers; Hardcover'. ITs got lots of pictures and cartoons and explains the whole thing very very intuitively. Also im not sure if the Microsoft book covers the new 1998 exam changes.

Very elementry, July 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A+ Certification Training Kit (Paperback)
This is the most elementry book on the subject I have seen. It is hard to believe that it could prepare one for the exam. Few questions; useless CD If a person is just starting and doesn't want to be overwhelmed by his first book, however, it is clear and understandable It should be republished as a introduction type text

Great if you're just starting out...otherwise, July 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A+ Certification Training Kit (Paperback)
Not for the professional with experience. If you want to slog through extremely elementary details, go for it. This is straight up a "how do we educate someone with no prior knowledge/experience with the subject" kind of book, which is fine for newbies. Get the New Riders A+ Fast Track(Core/OS) book if you want just the essentials. Read it in a week, passed both tests +90% back to back.

Lemme explain...., August 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A+ Certification Training Kit (Paperback)
First of all, for the price of this book, I would sure hope you would get a better book. Also, as stated before, their is too many typos on the book. At the same time, the book may be good to introduce newbies into slightly more technical ideas, but I wouldn't recommend this book for anyone that has much experience, nor wishes to pass the A+. A extremely good book I found was the A+ Exam Prep by Cert Insider. While I won't go on about here too much, it covers what you need to know and makes a good reference guide for after you pass the test. The MS book on the other hand, will merely collect dust on your shelf. The one thing I liked about the book was it was hard back, and that it was quick to read. This book won't get you ready to take the A+, it will merely get you familiar with the terms and ideas that you will need to learn more in depth from another book.

Excellent Book!, September 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A+ Certification Training Kit (Paperback)
Really Excellent book. Covers topics in detail but yet covers them in a simple easy to understand way. Alot of material in this book that's not needed for the exam but you probably will want to know anyway if you didnt read it. Also includes a searchable electronic version of the book which I found to be very useful.

Great book for beginner!, August 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A+ Certification Training Kit (Paperback)
As a computer beginner(end-user experience only), I was finding A+ to be extremely difficult. I went through the A+ "boot-camp" at a school, studied their textbook "Mindworks" and still felt I had so many gaps to fill. This book filled them and yes I passed both exams on the same day 7 weeks after my first class with 80% on both. Someone with experience would probably want the Meyers book - I looked through it at a bookstore. I would probably want to use it too when and if I ever get a job in the field. But for someone who is just starting and needs to learn a whole lot of sometimes overwhelming information -IT'S A GOOD BOOK. However practical experience counts as well and I don't believe I could have understood the information as well without the practical "hands-on" certification class.

It was a good reference guide., August 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A+ Certification Training Kit (Paperback)
It definitely goes into the elementary of computers. If you've got a lot of experience and your boss is making you take A+ don't get this, get an exam cram book. But if you would like a nice reference guide as well as a study guide that has questions at the end of each chapter to reinforce what you've read, then it is here. I like the format of the book and the type of lessons. It would have also been a little better if they broke it down into Core and Windows/DOS a little more than they do. It would have gotten 5 stars if it had practice questions and it had been run through a spell checker before they published it (what were they thinking?)

It's ok, don't get fooled by the publisher, August 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A+ Certification Training Kit (Paperback)
First of all, I must say that for the reputation that Microsoft has, it is unacceptable to have typos in their books. Anyway, this book is ok to use to pass the exam. I was disspointed, however. I expected a lot more from it. The book is very elementary and covers a lot of the history of computers which is not in the test at all. I recommend it to "newbies" in the field. The A+ exam does have much more than what they talk about in this book. It is good only for reference.
