Book Description

Thrust into a war she did not choose, Sarah Fanum yearns for simpler times. Times when all she had to worry about were bad crops or bad weather.
Unfortunately, fate had other plans. Set in 1776, my short story, A Christmas Crossing describes the night that changed the course of the Revolutionary War. It is not your typical Christmas story, but one that has affected every fabric of our lives as an American.

I was inspired to write A Christmas Crossing after visiting Yorktown, VA. I have always been enamored by the Revolutionary War and wanted to share my love for history with my love for Christmas. I hope you enjoy it.

A Christmas Crossing on Dec. 08, 2011
4/5 Stars
Sarah Fanum is thrust into the middle of the Revolutionary War. Having lost both her parents, she ends up volunteering for the Continental Army. More tragedy awaits her, but perhaps it will also lead to a new future. This is a moving story of one woman's journey to find where she belongs after her life is turned upside down. Lynn Hubbard's attention to historical detail is outstanding. This short story also includes historical photos and maps. Where I felt A Christmas Crossing fell a bit short is in grammar and typographical errors. Verb tenses would change in the middle of a chapter. Words were misspelled. I found that aspect distracting. A good editor would easily have caught these errors, making this a stronger story. Overall, I'm glad I read it and I would consider another of Hubbard's stories in the future. ~Cheryl Malandrinos

About the Author

I have been writing for over tens years and published for two. I have a twisted sense of humor and try to empart that into my writing. I am a sucker for happy endings. Unfortunately I don't have much time to read, but when I do, I enjoy non-fiction books as well as fiction. I am currently reading a book on K2, the second tallest mountain in the world. My favorite book series is Trixie Belden. Trixie was my best friend growing up and we still visit from time to time. I have two very creative and talented sons, and three dogs. I live in rural Georgia and love it! ~Lynn Hubbard

4.0 out of 5 stars Introduction to War of Hearts December 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A Christmas Crossing is a short story that serves to introduce the author' novel, War of Hearts. Following the main character, Sarah from Washington's crossing of the Delaware and beyond, we see her family decimated by the British Army and her own character and patriotism matured.

This wasn't quite what I was expecting, but was an interesting read. It would be a good young adult selection as it covers this part of American history in an interesting and simple way. The author even includes maps of each battle site.

A quick reading short story. The ending was open ended. It certainly was an eye opener however. We've all been taught about the revolutionary war however this story (I realize it's fiction) seems to take you behind the scenes of what we've been taught to describe what the toll actually was to the people affected.

This excerpt is a story of America's history told from the point of view of an American girl following her brother into battle during the Revolution. Well written and worth the read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful story. December 24, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
A wonderful story that brings history to life. It is the tale of the triumphs and sorrows, of two siblings, brought upon by war. Lynn Hubbard's yarn about a brief moment in the Revolutionary War let us take a peek into the lives of the brave souls that fought for American independence. This story will have appeal to the young and old alike. I enjoyed it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not really a Christmas story, but worth a read. November 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Well written and it flowed well, however I was expecting more of a Christmas story. It seemed to have an abrupt ending, but then I realized it was kind of a prequel to another book. I am interested to see how the story continues. I wish I could give an extra 1/2 star!

2.0 out of 5 stars um.... story? December 26, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm not sure I'd even call this a short story. A snippet, perhaps. And other than singing a Christmas carol in one scene, there was nothing Christmassy about it! If it was meant to be a teaser for the upcoming book, it failed; I have no desire to continue the story.
