About the Author

About Roger and Mala Burt Authors of A Dream Across Time Roger and Mala Burt are partners in marriage and work. Annie Rogers, a juxtaposition of Mala's middle name and Roger's first name, is the pen name chosen by the Burts for their works of fiction. The Annie Rogers adventure began in June of 1987 when they made their first visit to St. Lucia in the West Indies. By the end of a week, St. Lucia had worked its magic and they wanted to come back. So they did over the next 16 years, building a second home, starting a Caribbean travel business and, now, writing novels set in the Caribbean. A Dream Across Time grew out of the Burts' fascination with the complex lives of the colorful people they encountered on St. Lucia. The authentic details of life in the tropics ring true because of the Burts' intimate experience with island life. They feel that the only way to effectively bring to life the underlying nature of the Caribbean people is through fiction. With backgrounds as a psychologist and clinical social worker respectively, both Roger and Mala were married previously, each bringing two children to their second marriage. The challenges in their remarriage led them to become nationally recognized experts in stepfamily relationships and problems. Their joint clinical practice specialized in helping stepfamilies and led to their seminal work Stepfamilies: The Step By Step Model of Brief Therapy. Their previous publications have been works of nonfiction and include What's Special About Our Stepfamily? (Doubleday, 1983) and Stepfamilies: The Step By Step Model of Brief Therapy (Bruner/Mazel, Inc. 1996). As experts in the field of stepfamilies, they have appeared on national TV programs such as Oprah, and been interviewed extensively for newspaper and magazines as well as on NPR. With changes in the mental health field, the Burts chose to close their practices dealing with stepfamily adjustment and opened a specialty travel business for the short term rental of villas, www.islandtrips.com. After 15 years, they closed the travel business and are devoting full time to their writing endeavors. The second book in the series, A Circle of Dreams, has a publish date of June 2006. The third in the series will follow six months later. The Burts live in St. Michaels, MD. www.annierogers.com

Jamie Demontagne has just given birth to her third child, a son she named Phillippe. She lives in a dreamy location near the seacoast of St. Lucia. But all is not well with Phillippe. From the beginning the elders have been concerned that they are tempting fate by naming the child Phillippe.

Two hundred years earlier, the Demontagne family lost another child named Phillippe. His mother hunted her entire life for her child, and she passed on, her child never found. When Jamie names her son Phillippe, the long-dead woman believes that Phillippe is really her long-lost son.

Phillippe is not well, his spirit torn between the spirit world and the real world. His mother is desperate to keep him with her. Her four-year-old daughter Lissa, keeps insisting she sees ghosts visiting Phillippe. Will Jamie be able to convince the spirits to leave her son alone?

A Circle of Dreams is the second book in The Demontagne Saga. I didn't have the opportunity to read the first book in the series, A Dream Across Time, but A Circle of Dreams easily stands alone.

The story is well-written with occasional errors in point of view, and the characters are well developed. Sometimes it seems the scenes weren't shown as well as they could have been as I couldn't see what was happening in the story.

Armchair Interviews says: If you like paranormal and spine tingling mysteries then A Circle of Dreams is not to be missed.

Just a wonderful heart-warming story that grabs and keeps your attention. It's complete and yet leaves the door open for the next novel. It's smooth reading and vivid, so that you picture what your reading with every tropical moment. Just a really good book that I'd recommend. Makes you want to finish it in one sitting. I found it inventive, convoluted and intriguing.

A Circle Of Dreams by Annie Rogers (the collaborative pen name of Mala and Roger Burt) is an engaging mystery novel that begins with Jamie Elliott's arrival in St. Lucia from New York. Then there is the matter of a two-hundred-year-old relic and an untold mystery unraveling before Jamie's eyes. A terrific read, especially for mystery buffs who appreciate originality and a well crafted storyline, A Circle Of Dreams involves Jamie's cheating husband, an ethereal attraction to Andre Demontage, and the recent death of her mother, all ultimately carrying the reader through a dramatic and suspenseful tale.
