Book Description

May 17, 2011
Now in mass market paperback, the stunning debut novel of suspense from a “gifted writer” with a “long and successful career ahead of him” (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

At thirty-five, criminal defense attorney Alex Miller is the youngest partner at New York City’s most prestigious law firm, with the life he’s always dreamed of. When Alex’s father suddenly passes away, Alex is introduced to Michael Ohlig, a rich and powerful man who holds an almost mythical place in his family lore. But Alex is surprised when Ohlig admits that he’s in serious legal trouble, accused of a high-profile financial scam involving hundreds of millions of dollars.

When Alex takes on Ohlig’s defense, secrets are revealed that force Alex to question the motives of all the people in his life. Most importantly, he must decide whether the identity he projects to the world is the man he truly is—or even wants to be.

With its powerful voice, pulse-pounding tension, and strong cast of characters, A Conflict of Interest will captivate readers until its electrifying conclusion.

ABOUT A CASE OF REDEMPTION

Dan Sorensen was once a high-powered New York City defense attorney...but that was before a horrifying accident killed the two people in his life who meant the most, plunging him into a downward spiral. As he approaches rock bottom, Dan is unexpectedly offered the opportunity of a lifetime: defend an up-and-coming rapper in a murder trial on the front page of every newspaper. Although his client swears he's innocent of the brutal slaying of his pop star girlfriend, proving it will not be easy, especially because he's suspected of bragging about the crime in one of the hottest songs in the country.

Unsure that he's ready to handle such a high stakes case, Dan realizes that this chance to save a man he believes has been falsely accused of murder just may be his last and only hope to put his own life back on track, and achieve redemption for his past sins. But as Dan delves deeper and deeper into the case, he learns that atonement comes at a very steep price . . .

The critically acclaimed author of the thriller A Conflict of Interest now pulls out all the stops in A Case of Redemption--a gritty, sophisticated novel that will have fans of Scott Turow and John Grisham drawn into a world of relentless suspense through a powerful and riveting voice in fiction.

PRAISE FOR A CONFLICT OF INTEREST

"A Best Book of The Year"

-- Suspense Magazine

"Mitzner's assured debut, a legal thriller, compares favorably to Presumed Innocent... Mitzner tosses in a number of twists, but his strength lies in his characters and his unflinching depiction of relationships in crisis. This gifted writer should have a long and successful career ahead of him."

--Publishers Weekly, Starred Review

"A heady combination of Patricia Highsmith and Scott Turow, here's psychological and legal suspense at its finest. Adam Mitzner's masterful plotting begins on tiptoe and morphs into a sweaty gallop, with ambiguity of character that shakes your best guesses, and twists that punch you in the gut. This novel packs it. A terrific read!"

--New York Times Bestselling Author Perri O'Shaughnessy

"Mitzner combines the real world insights of an experienced litigator with the imaginative flair of a fine novelist to produce a page-turner with deeply flawed heroes, sympathetic villains and totally unexpected twists. I loved it."

--Alan Dershowitz, Author of Trials of Zion

NO SPOILERS

I had to write this even though I don't write many reviews. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars- I am so excited to discover a new author in this genre!

If you like Grisham or Turow you will Love Mitzner- and you will not believe this is a first-time author.

I read Conflict of Interest in just a few hours. "Page-turner" is an over-used cliché, but it really fits here.

This a legal thriller/mystery but with a lot of humanity and heart. It is as much about human relationships as it is about the law and the mystery. All the characters are eerily human. There are no 1-dimensional characters in this book; no pure heroes and no pure villains.

Mr. Mitzner- if you are reading this - I can't wait for your future books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping page turner May 17, 2011
Format:Hardcover
I just finished A Conflict of Interest and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The story line kept me on the edge of my seat, the characters were complex, and the dialogue and repartee were rich and witty. I'd highly recommend it, whether you are interested in legal thrillers, interesting characters, or punchy writing!

4.0 out of 5 stars Best read of the year (so far) June 9, 2011
Format:Hardcover
The first 100 pages of Conflict of Interest brought back favorable memories of Grishim's The Firm and the last 50 pages transported me back to Turow's Presumed Innocent. Mitzner deserves to be praised and encouraged but this book is not perfect and the intervening 200 pages could have been better. There are probably one too many story lines and while he does a good job of fleshing out his characters, they are shallow and predictable at times. The main character may of may not be to your liking depending on your tastes, gender and age, but he does fit well in the story. The author has provided a new voice to the genre at a time when most legal thriller writers such as Marrgolin, Martini & Richard North Patterson have strayed far from the courtroom. I have found this work along with Strobel's Ambition to have been the freshest and most exciting reads in a year when Baldacci, Connelly, Meltzer, Lescroart, Loefhelm and others have disapointed. I look forward to his next work.
