I actually saw a production of this play in Chicago before buying this copy of the play.
Abaire's text is surprising and entertaining down to the very end. It twists and turns, revealing secret by secret, all the while the characters are weaving their separate stories together, or back together as the case may be. The world of the play makes a nice progression from ordinary, normal, small potatoes to chaotic dystopia with crazy professors, invisible little demons, and amputation. Not to mention, skateboading, packs of wild dogs, and Dostoyevski!
It's a really fun piece. One of my favorite modern plays. Good one to produce or direct.

Don't study Russian Lit?
Read this play, and you'll be able to pretend like you do!
A Devil Inside is an under-appreiciated work by David Lindsay-Abaire.
Highly recommended if you like absurdism, twisting plots, or Martin McDonagh.
This play is a little violent, and may be inappropriate for young children.

After reading Rabbit Hole, I had pretty high expectations for this. I think my expectations were too high. It is well-written, but I just didn't think it was very funny...

I ordered this play because I had seen Fuddy Meers (also very good). David has a very unique vision of the world and that flows into his plays. I'm actually going to be directing a prodution of A Devil Inside this fall, I love this play.
