Beautiful book for any Disney fan who loves art, or an artist who loves Disney.
KSB
The pages feel like you're looking through an actual sketch book and it's great to see the different drawings for the characters.
Pullip
I love the fact that this book looks and feels like you just snatched a sketchbook off of the table of a Disney Animator.

There's no better way to judge an artbook than by looking at its pages, so I thought the video would be useful to you.

Everyone that knows about this book has been expecting it for years. I even thought it'd never come out. But here it is now in my hands, and I'm really happy with it.

The book is all about the rough images drawn by Disney artists over for classics like Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Jungle Book, Peter Pan and so many others. There's very few sketches of the main characters for almost all big Disney animated movies, so there's something for everyone.

The book has no text, except for an intro by Charles Solomon, where he mentions a few of the famous animators and what they drew. Then, it jumps directly to sketches and more sketches. There's no other text besides that introduction. While it's nice that the drawings are big so you can appreciate every detail, it's bad that there are no credits for each drawing. You're left wondering who the artist might be (although if you're a Disney animation freak, you might identify the style and quality of some of them).

The book is similar in style to Animation (Walt Disney Animation Studios: The Archive Series), although the focus of this book is the rough drawings.

I think that if you're a collector, or you like drawing, you're going to be really happy with this book. Enjoy!

I think this book is a wonderful treasure for Disney fans. The pages feel like you're looking through an actual sketch book and it's great to see the different drawings for the characters. Of course, you won't get as in depth of a look per film/character as you would for a "making of" book, but you get a good a mount of stuff, ranging from Mickey Mouse, all the way to "Tangled."

It's a lovely book for a Disney fan looking for a great book. Like someone else said, the only flaw are that there are no notes of any kind, so you can't tell who did what when and things like that. Still, a five star book.

I was disappointed that there were NO credits of artists on these drawings. Yes, on some of the older sketches the records of who did them weren't kept and it isn't known who did them, so in those cases say, unfortunately we don't know. But sketches of The Beast? Was it Keane or Dejas? It is an insult to the artists not to credit anyone. I understand the prefatory remarks that say that this book is about the beauty of the illustrations first and foremost. But the illustrations wouldn't exist if it weren't for the artists. It is an unforgivable corporate egocentricity to pretend that Walt Disney did all of these drawings himself. Even after he was dead? Please, in some way, maybe at least on the internet, tell us who did these classic drawings that have so deeply impressed all our lives.

I love this book! The pencil sketches are gorgeous, and have a "life of their own", often more so than the images that end up on screen. If you consider yourself an "historian" and want a detailed analysis of the art in the book, you will be disappointed. If, however, you want a beautiful book of art that is EXACTLY what the publisher describes, then this is for you!

Like other reviewers, I've had this book on pre-order for several years and it arrived today - it was worth the wait.

This is a beautiful book. The drawing are gorgeous and printed on heavy matte paper. Drawings come from Disney's hand drawn features (ranging from "Snow White" to "Princess and the Frog") with drawings from a few of the shorts mixed in. The drawings are presented in chronological order.

The format is different from the Archive Series but complements it well. I don't have my Archive Series books handy so I can't see if there are duplicates, but if you like the Archive Series, you'll like this book. The book actually feels like the Sketchbook series of books that are out of print and hard to find.

My only complaint is that most of the drawings are unattributed. The only flaw in an otherwise perfect book.

I hope to see more in this series.

After Randomly ordering this with my average load of school books I was not really sure of the quality that the book would be. I got it in the mail a few days ago and I cant stop looking at it. If you are an animator or an artist You should really consider buying this book. It does not have any writing or descriptions in who how or what is going on in each page but it does give you an abundance of original Disney roughs. This book is exactly what it says it is, A "Sketch Book" But it is filled with sketches from some of the most talented Disney artist in their prime. It shows the underlining Art of what makes Disney movies. I highly recommend this book.

The book was not what I was really expecting.
There really appears to be no organization to it. Just a bunch of sketches from the Disney archives.
Character sketches are not kept together i.e. Mickey Mouse is not kept together with other Mickey Mouse sketches.
Other than the lack of organization the book is a good reference.

This book is a great addition for anyone that is a huge Disney fan. There is no background info but just to look at the sketches in detail is enough to keep you coming back to it.
