Mark IV pictures first biblical prophecy epic captures the 70's era so effectively it's almost beyond camp. The film is very surreal and really seems like an exploitation film that should have been shown on 42nd Street next to Doris Wishman flicks. It really is as well made or better made than lots of seventies low budget underground classics. But it is hindered mostly by some amateur acting and it's unbelievably distracting fashions. Patty is a girl with a problem. Her husband is a Christian and she is not. While her husband gets deeper into church she gets deeper into her own miasma of whining about how nothing is fair. Her friend Diane is a hip-hugger wearing girl about town with ironed hair no less, and advise's Patty basically that she should be more worldly. Patty's other friend, a Christian, (at one point sporting soup can curlers the size of HI-C cans)tells Patty she needs to go to church before the rapture happens.
Inevitably it does and Patty is left behind trying to avoid taking the mark of the beast. I mean this was shot in Salt Lake City and everyone is horrifyingly blonde. Wouldn't you be afraid to be left behind with such scary people in the seventies? In the end it ends up being a dream, or is it? Is Patty in the Twilight Zone? This film also reminds me of that Religious Guilt TV show (Don't remember the name...)that used to be on Saturday mornings at like six a.m. before cartoons. Remember, you're six years old and you want to watch bugs bunny but instead you got up too early and have to watch some celebrity worry about alcoholism and then have strange nightmares before they turn to God in the end. Well that is this film. I actually really love A THIEF IN THE NIGHT. It is really a very sick little movie in it's own right. Not the christianity behind it, mind you.

I was already "saved" when I saw this movie for the first time at age 11. After I was done watching it, I double-checked, triple-checked and quadruple-checked to make sure I really was saved!! This movie (along with "A Thief in the Night" and "Image of the Beast") is now something I love to watch on the weekend in my pajamas with a huge bowl of popcorn and a Coke. For those of us who are sure of our faith, this movie is not scary-- just entertaining.

This is a wonderful film that I first saw as a child in the 1980's. It is stunning in it's frankness about how the end times will end up with alot of Martyrs. It will make you think about where you want to end up, in Heaven or in Hell? The Antichrist is coming, but don't worry those of you who are saved, so is Jesus. For the non-believers, you have chosen which team you are on, and it is not the winning one.

For people who say that The Thief in the Night series changed them from Christians to non-christians, are just trying to find something to blame for the cause. It was their choice to change. I'm only 13, but a lot smarter than to blame a movie for what a person has done to his or her life by themselves. Like them, I am Christian, but a true christian now that these movies have changed my life. Left Behind did nothing to me. A Thief In the Night did, and it'll help you on your way to great life.
A distant thunder picks up where Patty (Patty Dunning) left off. Even though she is living in the endtimes, and had been warned all about it ahead of time, she still has the rebellious feel in her. Still not believing God is the one who did all this, she has only one choice, to take the mark, which allows you to do everyday things with just a simple tattoo, or she can face death, by the gulloitine.
Never knowing about the Rapture before watching these movies made me think of how much I had been missing in the world. Now, because of these movies, I can go through life without having to worry. 5 stars for the best Christian movies ever made.

This film gives us a very explicit view of what the bible is telling us. If this doesn't make a person know and trust Jesus and Lord and Savior, I don't know what will. This keep the audience that viewed it glued to their seats and I don't think they took a breath until it was over. It is dated...that's true, but the story is there.

DVD did not play very good. Would stop and go a lot. Very poor quality. But the message was powerful if a person can ever get one that would play good.
