Book Description

Loved Dexter and American Psycho? Then you'll love A Good Man.

Louis Caron is a good man - vegetarian, he feeds the homeless, takes care of animals and is even concerned with the ecological future of the planet. But his altruism has a sinister edge - he's a vampire - and local detective Taglioni is becoming increasingly suspicious. Louis' attempt to escape the police takes him on a journey into his own private hell where he is not only forced to confront his worst fears, but also to destroy the lives of those he cares about most.

REVIEWS

"A startling new voice in horror" -- Lucky McKee, director of May and The Woman

"Vanessa Morgan's vampires are different, very different. Vampires, karma, life, philosophy; I was hooked from the start. I highly recommend A Good Man." -- Gnostalgia.

"The characters are well-written, the comedic moments are funny, and as for the story, it goes from humour to being very dark, and it segues from tone to tone seamlessly, eventually culminating in a great ending." -- Not this time, Nayland Smith

"A Good Man is captivating, thought-provoking, and it makes you wonder if we really know our friends. This was one of those stories that was deeper than the surface." -- Love, Literature, Art, And Reason

"If you're a fan of vampire movies that have something between the ears in addition to whatever is between its teeth, then A Good Man might be right up your alley. Based on a screenplay by Vanessa Morgan, A Good Man tells the tale of a vampire named Louis. Louis is a nice guy. In fact, he's downright hippy-like in his concern for the environment and love for mankind. Unfortunately, his love for mankind doesn't stop with altruism. See, Louis is the kind of guy who occasionally feeds the homeless, and occasionally eats them instead. This could turn into a gem of a movie, comparable to classy vampire movies like Thirst." -- Life After Undeath

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique June 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The concept was absolutely unique and I loved this script (book). A screenplay which is currently in production. What better way to test your audience.

The depiction of Louis appears to reflect hypocrisy and the more he avoids the situation at hand, his situation worsens. If he gives up blood, he is no longer a vampire. If he does not, he gets caught by the police and needs to forgo the bond he has with a human family. Karma seems to take her time with Louis as well and he is soon forced into a decision.

The one thing the story lacked was descriptions and scenes, but then this is a script and not a book so we'll have to wait for the other bits to be filled in and see if it matches the story Vanessa has laid out on paper.

Overall assessment:
Content: 4.5/5
Editing: 4.5/5
Formatting: 4/5
Pacing: 4.5/5
Offensive content?: I would rate it PG13.

Disclosure: I received a review copy of this book from the author. I did not receive any payment in exchange for this review nor was I obligated to write a positive one.

Format:Kindle Edition
I do not usually read and review screenplays but A Good Man really sounded interesting so I decided to it this book.I am so glad I accepted to review this one because I got sucked into this story from the very beginning and I easily imagine each scene and characters as well . Very well written and easy to follow. Also this story is currently in preproduction with Radowski Films.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vampires and Karma April 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I received an advance copy of Vanessa Morgan's new screenplay A Good Man to review. The story is now in preproduction with a French production company and after reading the screenplay i'm anxious to see the movie.
The screenplay opens with you meeting a help support group that turns out that they are all vampires. Let me just come right out and say these are not the vampires that sparkle. These vampires deal with a whole different side of the myth of their nature.
The main character is Louis he has been a vampire since 1750 and his main problem is that he was 55 when he was transformed into a vampire and that is the age he will be forever.
Louis is finding his life to be a very lonely way of life. Other than his need to feed upon the humans he still feels his need to bound with someone and he just is not finding it.
The screenplay is very engrossing I could not wait to see what was going to happen next. Some great characters that Vanessa brings to life and will make a great film. The ups and downs of really being a vampire and an inspector hot on your trail of blood.
The screenplay has a nice blend of described violence and suggested violence. I give it a fun Five star rating. I look forward to this coming to life on film.
Just remember Karma can really Bite.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Man February 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Now, I've never read a screenplay before, but I guess this is a good way to introduce it to a variety of audiences. I have to admit, it took me a few pages to get used to the different way it's written. After all, I'm a book reviewer, not a screenplay reviewer. However, it didn't take long for the story to over-take the different way it was written.

I absolutely loved the concept of a vegetarian vampire that wasn't from twilight. Louis is an elderly vampire.

Now, I have to admit that while so many feel this is a truly unique, never done "book"...I can't call it that. Vegetarian vampires were in Twilight and Louis was used in a famous Anne Rice book. I'd probably have chosen a less known name for my vampire.

Things pick up when he ends up having to go against some of what he thought he'd do.

Rating: 4/5

Details/Disclaimer: Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but I want more information May 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I received this book as an ARC.

Let's start with saying that I have never red a screen play before other than the classics. Really that means that I have read plays but not anything designed for tv production. It was a little weird to read at first because I am so used to reading novels. That being said, I can definitely see this as a tv series. I don;t know if it has enough content to be a movie, but the events in Louis's life could definitely be spread into a series. It needs a lot more fleshing out though if that is the case. I suppose that is pretty much my biggest issue with it. I think way more could be added. I felt like each scene was way too short. If acted out exactly as written, it wouldn't make it to an hour I don't think. It depends on how many liberties the producer and director take in the production of it.

Other than that...It seems like a really interesting concept. It is a vampire that has a desire to be more human, but at the same time he cannot deny his nature. He actually decides that he has to do something because a police officer has figure out that he isn't as young as he says he is and he pretty much insinuates that he knows Louis is responsible for the death of one woman from a dating site. It is pretty obvious that the officer understands that Louis is a vampire and he is giving him room to wiggle out of being caught. The only solution Louis has is to leave the country instead of giving the cop something else to investigate. Louis's biggest problem with this is his attachment to a human family. He decides (as per suggested from his vampire support group) that he must fake his death in order to give them the closure they will need to accept not having Louis in their lives. The result? Louis must deny his nature and give up human blood in order to put himself into a comatose state and fake his death. You will need to read it to see what happens...or see it when it comes on tv.
