Customer Reviews

His crime is cold, calculating, and brutal; not to mention heartbreaking.

I felt this was a well written true crime novel and if you have an interest in reading that type of book you should read this one.

There are some books that you just can't put down. They are told in such a way, that you find yourself not wanting to turn off the lights to go to sleep. Helter Skelter comes to mind as being one of those books. A Killer's Touch, should have been one those books. It is the horrifying story of a young mother who is kidnapped out of her home in broad daylight and forced to leave behind her two small children. On the road, many people have heard Denise Amber Lee's cry for help but many do nothing - except for one woman who calls 911 to report what she believes, is a small child in the back seat of a car in distress, and crying out for help. She then gives the location and model of the car, and keeps the killer in sight for as long as she can however, while the police are out there searching for Denise, the crucial information that may have saved her life is not getting to them due to nothing more then incompetence! Sad, sad, sad! Denise is smart enough to leave clues behind and one cannot help but be sickened by what this poor woman must have been going through. We learn that Denise had a loving husband and family and she was a good mother, but we learn little about the killer - who he is and why did he do it? The second part of the book which is more then half the book, is all courtroom information and it gets a bit tedious since there was really no suspense here. There is enough evidence that Michael King is the killer and to make matters worse, the bum is still sitting on death row eating, drinking and breathing. True crime fans may want to skip this one....sorry.

A Killer's touch is a true crime story following the January 2008 abduction and murder of a young Florida mother of two, Denise Amber Lee. Twenty-one year old Denise Amber Lee was the daughter of the head of Charlotte County Sherriff's Office Marshall Fugitive Task Force in southeast Florida. Denise's husband Nate Lee, upon arriving home from work finds both his boys ages one and two together in the baby's crib, windows closed. Frantically noticing Denise's purse containing her cell phone, contents strewn across the couch with Denise nowhere in sight. With terror in his heart, Nate makes a call to his father in law saying Denise is missing. I am on my way, he answers. The story carries you heartbreakingly through the events leading up to Denise's removal from her home, the frantic 911 phone call Denise herself makes while held captive which points law enforcement in her direction. Although multi-jurisdictional teams of law enforcement personnel are racing the clock following close on her trail, crucial miscommunication in relaying information leads to the tragedy that befalls the young mother. However, Denise proves the most instrumental witness of all in leading them to her killer. The story follows throughout the apprehension of Michael King the only suspect in this grisly crime and the subsequent court case that follows. The prosecution and defense bring out their best arguments, evidence and experts, but will the jury find Michael King guilty?

This book nearly had me screaming at the people who could have possibly saved Denise. From the 911 operator to the perps cousin, they all failed her. While it is terrible to even think of being abducted from your own home in broad daylight, it must be even worse to actually have the wits about you to come in contact with others and no one helps you. Denise truly is a hero for trying so hard to save her own life. Read this book if for no other reasons than to know what NOT to do should you ever encounter a situation like this and to meet a truly courageous young woman. May she rest in peace.

I love reading true crime - but not this time.
The majority of the story is in-depth details of the court case, and to a lesser degree, the 911 phone call made by a passerby who witnessed the abduction.
I don't know why the blurb mentions neighbours reporting the offender throwing acid in their pool, and slashing their tyres, as it was obviously of no relevance to the story, as it covered 2 sentences in the book, and was never mentioned again.
The killer doesn't confess, so the details of the actual crime are sketchy at best.
I kept reading, and reading, and reading, waiting for something to grab my interest, but it just didn't happen.

This was a good read, although of a tragic and sad event. Good detail.
Found the Epilogue particularly interesting, detailing subsequent events
and the effects the case had on the people involved. Recommended.
