Editorial Reviews

Queen revisited the cinema in the mid-80s, recording a suite of songs for the enduring action-fantasy thriller Highlander. Adding the Live-Aid inspired anthem One Vision plus several more tracks, they came up with A Kind Of Magic. The biggest Queen album yet when it was originally released. A Kind Of Magic lingered on the British charts for 63 weeks as the band embarked on their biggest stadium tour to date.A platinum smash in its original and CD releases, now restored to glorious analog 180 gram jet-black vinyl lp. Yes it's Phase II of Queen on Vinyl Collector's Edition re-issue program - every Queen studio album is to be released on vinyl lps over the next two years. The original albums are being re-issued correct in every detail to the original releases, including inner sleeves, packaging and bonuses.

This album could be very loosely described as the "soundtrack" for the "Highlander" movie because it contains much of the music from the film itself but it's not quite what has in mind when one thinks about a soundtrack. There are no scores here like in the "Flash Gordon" album and there are other songs that do not appear in the movie. The first track, "One Vision" actually comes from another movie, "Iron Eagle" and the title track is not connected to either movie. Still, the tracks are quite strong on their own merits and there are bonus tracks here, remix versions of the title track and "Friends Will Be Friends" and "Forever" which is a keyboard instrumental version of "Who Wants to Live Forever". Not Queen's best work but then to be honest, Queen's work had been erratic ever since "The Game" but still a decent offering and worth a listen. This Japanese lp mini-replica version has been remastered but the bass levels seem a little too heavy but it's very well packaged. The album has never sounded or looked better. Recommended if you liked the movies or if you liked the singles.

I've listening this albums since the 80s, first on cassette tape, later on CD and just now, on vinyl. And I gotta say, this is it! This is the way we all should listen music, it really "alive". Songs like Who Wants to Live Forever and One Year of Love are something completely different to the CD version in terms of sound. I recommend this release 101%.

Not their best album by any means but I saw them perform live at Knebworth in 86 (their last concert) and this album takes me back.

The vinyl is heavy (probably 180g) and the quality of the cutting is very good; almost no rumble or hiss.

Definitely worth the money.

This album is a great album. It arrived in good condition and I got it for a great price. It really adds to our vinyl collection. It is also the soundtrack for the movie Highlander, and it really does have some good songs. The quality of the sound is great, maybe better than the CD.

I would recommend it to any fans of Queen because it does have great songs on it and would make a wonderful addition to any record collection.

Well done, quality vinyl release. Hollywood Records has done a great job on the Queen recordings. This is no exception.
