Book Description

March 18, 2011
When Efe Sagay receives a transfer to the branch of a prestigious hotel chain in the Nigerian capital, she accepts it, happy to return home to family after years in the United States. Also, Nigeria is a big place, right? There should be nothing about her new city, Abuja, to remind her of the heartbreak of her relationship with ex-fiancé, Kevwe Mukoro.

However, Efe is facing Kevwe across an office seven months later, swamped by emotions she'd thought were dead. When Kevwe claims he's never stopped loving her, and asks why she abandoned him, Efe stomps off, incensed. It was the other way around!

But they are unable to stay away from each other, and buried desire flares. Ultimately, passion is no match for the bitter memories of broken promises. Efe and Kevwe have to resolve the traumatic events of the past before love can be rekindled.

More About the Author

Myne Whitman is my pen name. I was born and raised in Enugu, Nigeria, where I spent most of my time, studying, reading and daydreaming or climbing trees and playing with the boys. I have a Master's degree in Public Health Research but have chosen my childhood dream of spinning stories. After a few years in Edinburgh, Scotland, I now live with my husband in Seattle, USA. I write and blog full-time, and also volunteer as an ESL tutor for a local charity. I critique with the Seattle Eastside Writers Meet-up and I'm also a member of the Pacific Northwest Writers Association.

The Pacific Northwest of America is a great place but during the drizzling winter rains, I dream of long, hot, Nigerian days and the red palm oil of Banga Soup. A self-confessed adrenaline junkie, I love theme park rides and my wildest ride yet would be the Simpsons at Universal studios, Hollywood. Or maybe it was that reverse bungee jump I did in Scotland, hmm...lol.

In addition to writing popular fiction to get people reading, I am passionate about using the internet and social media to promote the book industry and literacy levels in Nigeria. To this end, I facilitated a session, "Social Media and the Book Publishing Industry", for the Publisher's Forum at the 2010 Garden City Literary Festival, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. I also founded and work as the publisher and managing editor of NaijaStories.com, a critique website for aspiring Nigerian writers.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars for me September 2, 2011
Format:Paperback
This title of this story basically summarizes what happened. A young college student named Toritsefe Sagay (Efe) met and fell in love with a fellow student named Kevwe Mukoro. They were torn apart for over 7yrs, but a chance business meeting between Kevwe's twin broter Ofure and Efe paved the way for the former lovers to confront each other. Instead of getting closure, Efe and Kevwe discovered that their feelings had not changed. They had to make a choice of whether to let the past rest or find out what went wrong and fix it.

What I liked:
1) The use of naija slang brought back lots of memories
2) Lightly touching on tribal fighting--anymore focus would have detracted from main story
3) Kevwe's consistent pursuit. It was clear that he loved Efe and that never waivered

What I did not liked:
1) The back and forth from the past to the present. It ruined the fluidity of the story for me
2) This story is so basic...lacking creativity as the plot is just so common. There just wasn't any real meat on the bone.
3) Certain things were not believable. The "issue" was so obvious that I thought the couple must not be that bright.

Overall, it was a decent read. The flow of the story kept it from being a 4-star.

4.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful expression of a love so strong and true April 17, 2011
By Olori
Format:Paperback
The book started a bit slow for me but after the first few pages, I couldn't stop reading the book till I finished it. A Love Rekindled is a realistic and engaging story. You could almost touch the characters - Efe and Kevwe - both guarded by past hurt but vulnerable to past love. You ached with their pain and yearned for their kind of love - pure and intense. Myne did a great job incorporating some of the Nigerian issues that we never really get to read about in novels but that are so much a part of who we are.I also loved the way she explored intimacy in the book, very genuine (and yes you could feel the intensity).....not forced or overkill! I always appreciate Myne's simplicity and that made this book an easy read. I didn't care much for the way she moved between the past and present so frequently but after a while it adds to the suspense and gets you excited for what's coming next. With a lot of love and a hint of comedy, A Love Rekindled is definitely a must read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Spellbinding!!! April 5, 2011
Format:Paperback
Myne, I am impressed with your progress, particularly in relation to your second romance novel.
Bravo to you! Please consider turning "A Love Rekindled" into a movie. It will definitely have me and many others running to the theater. It has been a while that I have read a love novel. It appeared that the days of enjoying reading Mills and Boons love novels were behind me due to my busy schedule, but thank goodness for "A Love Rekindled," the fire is rekindled inside of me.

This exceptional novel tells a story of how lost love was resurrected in ways unimagined. Myne, I do like the way that you paint a vivid picture of the characters (Efe and Kevwe), weaving past love and despair interactions into rapid sentences to fill in the reader with some of the past history to the present challenges they have to face. In addition, it was both interesting and informative to become au fait with the richness of combined American and African culture; what a plus! You ingeniously wove together the clear truth that love certainly cuts across all tribes, cultures, and nations notwithstanding what the world throws at you. This made for a colorful and captivating tableau.

A Love Rekindled is a treat worth sharing with all. It is comforting, warm and enticing! Without reservation, I heartily advocate this book.

My God: Even in the Last Minute
