From the Publisher

Designed for school districts, educators, and students seeking to maximize performance on standardized tests, Webster’s paperbacks take advantage of the fact that classics are frequently assigned readings in English courses. By using a running thesaurus at the bottom of each page, this edition of A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift was edited for students who are actively building their vocabularies in anticipation of taking PSAT®, SAT®, AP® (Advanced Placement®), GRE®, LSAT®, GMAT® or similar examinations.

Swift's "modest" proposal has been talked about for centuries. Because some readers may not have learned of it yet, I won't say exactly what it is, as I don't want to spoil the fun for those readers encountering Swift for the first time. I only want to say that if you've read Swift's Gulliver's Travels, then you will almost certainly want to read A Modest Proposal. It will certainly help demostrate the uniqueness, literary skill and bold imagination of this gifted author.

Excellent work. It's just as applicable today as it was when Mr. Swift first wrote it. A must read item.

This piece of satire holds up over time. We still have the same issues surrounding poverty in our modern era. Every conservative politician should be required to read this essay and ponder their attitudes.
