3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By Steve Oldham on December 13, 2010
Format: Audio CD
This is a live tome to Gazpacho's progress so far, and was available only from their website. It's a double CD with a DVD of the concert too (although it is not NTSC format-computer play only).
I was originally introduced to Gazpacho with Tick-Tock. I found the album totally captivating, to say the least. I have only been so enamoured with a few albums from the first listen, Nathan Mahl's "Clever Use of Shadows" and Riverside's "Out of Myself" coming to mind. That is not to say that Gazpacho sounds anything like these 2 bands, only that I found them easily accessible on first listen and have not tired of them since. That being said, I enjoyed every not of Tick Tock and true to AOR rock recordings, found it impossible to seperate one track from another-prefering to listen to the entire album I must say though, that "Winter is Never" is clearly my favorite. It's a haunting melody and a fitting closer to the album, it's every bit as good on this live album...I feel that the songs are as good as the originals on this album, clearly recorded and true to teh albums w/ slight embellishments here and there, but not detracting from the original. You'll find all of Tick-Tock here, most of Night (an excellent fore-runner to Tick Tock.) There are samplings from the 3 previous albums "When Earth Lets Go", "Bravo" and "Firebird"...One could easily start here to sample all that Gazpacho has to offer, and not be disappointed-but please do yourself a favor and buy the originals! The only album not represented is the latest Missa Atropos album which is gorgeous in itself...As mentioned on other posts, if you are a fan of Talk Talk (vocals) beautifully played mellotron (Genesis), violin/mandolin (Blue Merle) and subtle songwriting, you will not be disappointed.
The final thought for you is this, like a good Gazpacho soup, this music cannot be rushed...please sit and enjoy it completely, and you will be nourished and walk away satisfied!
