Delightful book!,
By
This review is from: A Pumpkin for God (Paperback)
An adorable, sweet tale about little Keri who is dealing with the death of her beloved grandfather. A touching story with a bit of humor at the edges of the grief and a great example of a young child's ability to cope with loss through love. I also enjoyed the lovely illustrations by Steve Lavigne. Another wonderful story by this gifted author is 'The Baby's Cross'.

A Pumpkin for God by C. Gale Perkins, illustrated by Steve Lavigne
Whether teaching or retired most of us are always looking for a good book.... I have found a not-to-be-missed treasure. THIS NEW-TO-THE-MARKET picture book by C. Gale Perkins is a gem based on a true happening involving a grandchild and grandmother at the time of a loss in the family. The beauty of this book is in the pure innocence of the five year old making sure everyone is happy including GOD. Anyone looking for an extra resource to help children cope with a family loss would want to be familiar with this true story. It is also NOT a sad or mournful book.

More than just another childrens story,
By Jerry Minchew "Author of Knighthawke" (Soddy Daisy, TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Pumpkin for God (Paperback)
The way that we deal with death is just as important as how we deal with life because they are both important to the same journey. Explaining the death of a loved one to a small child is an age old problem that countless adults have struggled with. C. Gale Perkins has given us a tool to make the task a little ... well, maybe not easier but at least more interesting. A PUMPKIN FOR GOD can be used by adults as a discussion starter in a childs journey of discovery as he/she attempts to make sense of the death of a loved one.

A Beautiful Pumpkin,
This review is from: A Pumpkin for God (Paperback)
This is an absolutely charming children's book that is not necessarily seasonal as it is based on the timeless topic of a child dealing with her grief after the loss of her beloved grandfather. Five year old Keri, devises her own way to honor her grandfather with an interesting twist to include God as well.
Each turn of the page provides delightfully vibrant illustrations of artist, Steve Lavigne, to tell part of the story for young children to follow along with. Rendering a simple plot and a sweet resolution, "A Pumpkin For God" is sure to be a much loved book of any child.

A Pumpkin for God is a unique and interesting true story about Keri who is coping with the loss of her Grandfather. Keri and her Grandmother take a trip to the cemetery and the story tells how Keri worked through her loss. The illustrations by Stephen Lavigne are exceptional. The story takes place in the fall of the year and is heartwarming.
