Book Description

What’s more treacherous than navigating a pack of society matrons at a designer sale?

Stalking a killer…

When fashionista and television celeb Gina Monroe goes home to attend the funeral of her late grandmother, the last thing she expects to encounter is murder. And the reading of the will is anything but fashionable as unanswered questions arise. Who is the dead woman in the woods behind the family house? And why is she dressed in Milano designer clothes?

With help from her cousin Tony and Detective Rob Dumont, Gina investigates the not-so-model citizens around her. When another murder occurs, a pattern slowly emerges and Gina wonders if her grandmother's death wasn't so natural after all.

Editorial Reviews:

"Page-turning pace, fascinating characters, sly wit, and a plot that will keep you guessing." —Janet Bolin, Agatha-nominated author of Dire Threads

"Fast-paced suspense, charismatic characters, and dialogue to die for. Brisk plotting with a deadly twist at the end." —Lou Allin, author of She Felt No Pain

"Campbell and St-Pierre have style in the way they present, develop and portray their characters. This novel grabs hold of you from the get go with its cast of wacky and malicious relations. A delightful novel with complex relationships and a series of shocking secrets. The authors have a knack for wonderful turns of phrase, which are one reason why this novel is a delight to read. Then there is one mystery after another and suspense building to an unforgettable conclusion. Campbell and St-Pierre create a delectable concoction of savoury and unsavoury characters, sex, delicious humour and suspense. This winning combination can't help but delight readers." —Garry Ryan, Lambda-nominated author of Malabarista

"An old fashioned murder with modern sensibility; stylish characterization, and delicious plot; artistically woven." —Rebekkah Adams, author of Front Porch Mannequins

There are too many characters and most are poorly developed, so there is no point having them in the story. Shameful Freeloader  |  13 reviewers made a similar statement

5.0 out of 5 stars HAPPY FAMILIES! November 25, 2012
Format:Paperback
What an opening. What a funeral. What a will-reading. What a squabble of relatives. Just fantastic: an old lady really having fun with her will.
And it was a really enjoyable read. It kept me on the edge of my seat, kept me awake when I should have been sleeping and introduced me to the somewhat different perspective that women have on life - and fashion - and the opposite sex.
So many suspects too. And they kept changing and swapping around until, really, I didn't know who had done what to whom until the last couple of pages. I wonder if the authors did.
Buy this book and read it then look out for the next one. You'll miss a whole new crime-reading experience if you don't. Congratulations, Melanie and Cynthia.
Enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars A page turner September 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I read this in one session. The words seemed to leap off the page. A fun read with a kick-ass original ending. I didn't see it coming. Blew my guess of whodunit out of the water. If you read for plot, this is a great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute cozy mystery will appeal to fans of the genre November 7, 2012
Format:Paperback
In A Purse to Die For, fashionista and television celebrity, Gina Monroe, is returning to her home town to attend the funeral of her late grandmother. However, what should be a simple funeral and reading of the will turns deadly when a dead woman turns up in the woods behind the family home.

When more dead bodies turn up, Gina is left wondering if the death of her grandmother was natural, or something more sinister.

A Purse to Die For was my first foray into the Canadian writing of Melodie Campbell and Cynthia St-Pierre, and if this book is anything to go by I am anticipating more fabulous mysteries from this duo.

From the start I really liked our amateur sleuth, Gina. She has sass, style and a great attitude. Sure there is that thing that she's pining over her cousin, but that aside! It was fun watching her try to solve the mystery. Even with the scattered by the authors I wasn't able to solve the mystery just before Gina, and combined with romantic angle I was hooked and eagerly anticipating the denouement.

All in all, A Purse to Die For was a really cute mystery and I'm really hoping there are going to be more books in this series, as I think Gina has more than enough amateur sleuthing skills to solve another murder or two!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
This was not such a great find. There are too many characters with no focus, no main character. I kept hoping that the story would get better. No such luck.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent vacation read
The story line kept me guessing until the end. The only reason I gave it three stars was that some places in the kindle edition just seemed to transistion unsmoothly. Read more
