Best that I can tell from the pub. date, this was Davidson's first book. It shows. I'm not sure if she was trying for omniscient POV, but there was so much head hopping going on that the writing was difficult to follow (although she is talented when is comes to description of setting, characters, emotion, etc.). It does get better about mid way through. Another problem was that she was not clear about the year of the setting. I thought it was 'modern day' (maybe l980's) but then the heroine mentions reading Nancy Drew. Of course that would make her passive nature and the hurried marriage a little bit more believable. They weren't, in my opinion. I can't see a father giving his only daughter away to a stranger with whom she's had only one date (while on a vacation). It would have been more plausible had he come to town and taken her out on a date or two, then returned a second trip to ask for her hand. Anyhow, as far as plot goes, it was rather bland with nothing really exciting except the housekeeper getting sick and the angry outbursts of a jealous husband. If you want a good example of this author's writing, try The Marriage Promise followed by Redemption, or Maggie's Beau followed by The Seduction if Shay Devereaux.

i bought this book because the one review said historical western.this is not historical or a western.this takes place in modern times there is planes phones
tv and much more. however about ninety percent of the book takes place on a ranch. but they ride pickup trucks more often then horses.even tho it is not my kind of book i did enjoy it. this is about love at first sight but the problem comes when he discovers she is not a virgin on the wedding night.he turns into a jealous jerk but the author makes him a lovable jerk.i have always enjoyed carolyn davidson's books and if you like her writings you will like this book.the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is cause i only give 5 stars to books i know i will read again and even tho i enjoyed the book i won't be rereading it.

A Question of Virtue is a wonderful western historical romance. For those of us that loves that type of story, Carolyn Davidson is a truly great story teller. I have read all of her books and will continue to buy any book that she writes.
