About the Author

Dwayne Redmond was born in Greenwood, a small town in Mississippi. Though he always enjoyed writing poetry, he never took it seriously until his oldest sister Thelma sent him an article about a poetry contest given by the National Library of Poetry. He entered, and his first poem, "May," was published in the early 1990's. He also had his own successful television show in 1994 called "Poetry in Motion," which promoted poetry, anti-drug messages, and black history. After publishing four more poems, he decided to write his own book, which is a blessing to be able to publish. Dwayne is currently a police officer in Washington, DC.

I first met American poet Dwayne Redmond when he was typing up his poems at the public library where I work. He looked unusually focused and involved in his work. When I asked if I could read his poems, he showed me some of the poems that have been collected into this book.

His poems invite you to walk with him through his life, seeing the things he saw, from his childhood in Mississippi to his world travels and back home again to Washington DC. My favorite poems include a poem describing his pride of coming from Mississippi, "Imagine a Beautiful Mississippi,"and his tribute to his aunt and uncle, "Ella Lee and Skeet."

His poems are sometimes playful, sometimes serious, always thoughtful. Some of his short poems will knock you over. Some of his poems will make you think and then think again. Dwayne Redmond is a keen observer of human beings. This sizable collection of his poems has some real gems within.

(This book was reviewed by Kristi Tousignant, in the Montgomery County Gazette Newspaper in January, 2011, in an article titled "District officer shows his depth with poetry book." You can find this book review by searching the web for the title of the article.)

I met my hometown friend Dwayne Redmond some years ago but I never knew that he had this awesome God-given gift of poetry. I am extremely impressed with the caliber and variation of poems he has composed and compiled in A REVELATION! As I began reading, I found it difficult to put his book down. He covers an array of topics from family, friends, romance, hometown, his travels, relationships, songs of Micheal Jackson and Luther Vandross, etc. Check out his poems titled: A soft Kiss and Affairs of the Heart. I was very moved by his warmth and heartfelt written expressions and felt as if he was reciting these poems standing next to me. There really is something in it for everyone of all races and genders. I find his book inspiring, encouraging, and spiritually uplifting through his poetry. I anticipate that his next poetry book will be even more compelling based on what I've already seen illustrated in "A Revelation!" I also look forward to definitely buying his next book upon completion! I suggest to anyone with a love for any type of poetry to please get this book and read it for yourself because it takes you on adventures you'd never imagine! This Book shares light on much of the realities of our everyday lives from all walks of life. Thanks for sharing your creativity through the world of poetry and I wish you much more success in future endeavors...Always!

Dewayne Redmond combines his personal experiences about life and love in this book of poetry. When reading his poetry, the reader embarks upon Dewayne's remarkable journey! The reader gets a portrait of his childhood experiences while living in the Mississippi Delta. In addition, Dewayne offers "real talk" about the repercussions of choices, turbulent times, the rebirth of his soul, the salvation of forgiveness, spiritual reawakening, happiness, and being able to live a meaningful life! As a reader, I truly felt invited to listen to a well-versed poet, one who made me ponder and reflect on my own life experiences ~ made me smile ~ and offered life's lessons with short stop suggestions. After reading the first few poems, I could not put this book down!! This book is definitely a great read and a poignant collection of poetry!!! I am waiting on the next book!!!!!
