5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
I remember buying this album for 50 cents at a Goodwill store in 1981; I hadn't heard of White Witch before this (and besides, I thought the album cover looked pretty cool), so I took it home, put it on my turntable and just FREAKED out! 1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid This Pathetic Red Fox Version
Yes, it's cheaper than the legit Capricorn version, but you get what you pay for. This is a pathetic, flat sounding recording made from vinyl. Instead, spend a few more $ and get the legit Capricorn label version listed elsewhere on Amazon while you still can, since it has been out of print since the late 90s.

I remember buying this album for 50 cents at a Goodwill store in 1981; I hadn't heard of White Witch before this (and besides, I thought the album cover looked pretty cool), so I took it home, put it on my turntable and just FREAKED out! I was amazed at the musical diversity of the album; the Beatle-esque beauty of "Walk On", to the heavy rock of "Auntie Christy/Harlow", and in between, the wonderfully spaced-out "Crystallize And Realize", which is my favorite track on this album, but also my favorite White Witch track of all time!

White Witch were very underrated and overlooked during their brief career which is quite a shame; the band sounded like no other of the time, especially in the chameleon-like vocal delivery from their late singer Ronn Goedert. Equally impressive was keyboardist Buddy Pendergrass' ample use of the Moog synthesizer on this album and especially on the band's great 1972 debut. These albums are first-rate classics which sounded unique and ahead of their time. Unfortunately, their ill-fated association with the southern rock label Capricorn assured them nothing more than cult status and obscurity; the combination of their glam image and space-rock music seemed quite out of place amongst their more well-known labelmates, such as the Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker Band and Charlie Daniels.

The bottom line is, this album is GREAT! For those familiar with White Witch, buy this CD and re-acquaint yourself with this wonderful gem (if you haven't already!). Those of you who are new to the band, I'm sure you'll react to this album the same way that I did over 20 years ago; you're in for a real treat!

4.0 out of 5 stars Imaginative, time-tested, December 27, 2007
This review is from: A Spiritual Greeting (Vinyl)
This second WW album was recorded with a bass player who came at the end of an array of "fill-ins" that sat in following the first album, and who had the group add another drummer. Still, the remaining original members created some very imaginative, time-tested music in keeping with the first album. WW disbanded after this album. So, don't confuse the cd (Power) put out by the later, much less imaginative Pittsburgh band with real WW music.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Spiritual Experience!, April 7, 2002

"blacknapkins" (Sarasota, FL United States) - See all my reviews
These guys are probably the BEST obscure 70s band out there. This album is a vital addition to anyone's collection. White Witch don't stick to any one style here, there's something for everyone. The MASTERPIECE on this CD is Crystallize And Realize, an acoustic space ballad that picks right up where early Bowie leaves off. Auntie Christy is a scary guitar driven hard rock jam, Walk On has a very Beatle influence- all of these styles are done without compromising the individual sound of this band. These guys were UNBELIEVABLY good! Till I found their band website on the net I had no idea this was even out on CD. The mastering on this disc is terrific compared to the vinyl (now I know what is said at the beginning of Slick Witch). This disc is different than their first CD but equally awesome. You will NOT be disppointed if you buy this disc!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars sophisticated, fun, progressive, tragically unrecognized, July 1, 2001

This music is so progressive, diverse, well-composed, and flawlessly executed that you will not believe it. Very catchy melodies, very heavy rhythms, very innovative sounds (for the 70's), great musicianship, it has it all. The compositions are not the kind that just take a couple of chord progressions and repeat them endlessly. Intead, they take you on a ride that doesn't often repeat itself. I have always considered it a major mystery that this group is not more well-known. I have and treasure the original albums, and wanted the music on CD so much that I carefully recorded them and transferred it to CD. Now that the real CDs are out, I will buy them both just to support whoever had the brilliance and good taste to release them.

5.0 out of 5 stars TAKES ME BACK TO "HIGH" SCHOOL!!, November 24, 2000
Who of us ,that enjoyed this when we were in our youth, would believe that we would actually see the year 2000. In 1974 it seemed unfathomable. Actually,I had thought this music would have been forgotten as Capricorn records bankrupted years ago. Im happy to see that they are back. These tunes on this CD are way before their time.It seems like they encompass eveything from BOWIE to Deep Purple coming in with some Guns n Roses and even Eric Claptons sound of guitar licks. We ll all ride high(Moneybag$) Showdown and Black Widow Lover are the highpoints but every one of these tracks are worth the bucks! NP

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing live concert, September 13, 2007
An amazing concert. I saw this awesome band in the early 70's, back in the days when concerts were outdoors and lasted all afternoon and night.
I have the ticket stub...wow...what a concert. I especially remember the fantastic music....on a hot summer night....the moon shining and the drummer was fantastic. Tossing out glow in the dark drum sticks as he played. Still love the music but is hard to find on cd.

Still Rocking (Stockbridge,Ga.) - See all my reviews
I saw them in Warner Robins,Georgia at the Civic Center in the early "70's. Great show but I can't find the CD's anywhere. I have tried the email addresses on some of the reviews but they are either too old or were false to begin with. I am looking to buy or swap a CD to get the White Witch Cd's,copies are ok. Email me at ersag5@yahoo.com
