About the Author

DJ Foroughi has been involved with football since his early childhood days in Rio de Janeiro, kicking the round ball whenever and as often as possible. He first reported on the World Cup for the English language daily Tehran Journal in 1974 and attended the 1994, 1998 and 2006 tournaments as well. An avid participant and passionate fan, he played the sport in college and on amateur teams in New York, Virginia, the District of Columbia and Maryland, enjoying a 20 year run with Persepolis FC - a team he founded in 1984 and for whom he turned out as player-manager, capturing over a dozen regional league, state and tournament titles. Foroughi received his first coaching badge in 1980 and referee certification a year later. He has coached youth teams at various age levels in Maryland, where he presently lives with his wife and son in the small town of Boyds

This is a great read. I initially bought it as a reference book to look up statistics around my favorite teams and players. To my surprise, the book has a lot of interesting background information about players. The author is articulate and seems to be a true fan of the game.
