Diana Watts (Lindsay Burdge) is A TEACHER who teaches high school English at a school in Austin, Texas. She begins a sexual affair with one of her students, Eric Tull (Will Brittain). Unlike the usual teacher-having-an-affair-with-student-story, Eric doesn’t mention his relationship with Ms. Watts to anyone. Diana attempts to keep things under wraps. However, her mental state starts to unravel the more she thinks about what will happen if her relationship with Eric is discovered.

I watched A TEACHER after seeing a trailer for it on the DVD for another independent picture. The trailer intrigued me. Unfortunately, the trailer is far more interesting than the actual movie.

The first time the audience sees one of Diana and Eric's trysts, it's made quite clear that they have been meeting together for quite some time. It's never explained exactly how long, however. This is unfortunate because this information alone would have provided some much needed explanation into Diana's mindset as well as make the movie more interesting. Diana has a brother and just before Thanksgiving she meets with him. He wants to talk with her about their mom, but Diana gets up and leaves. Apparently, her brother is taking care of their mother and she has some sort of mental illness. It's never explained if it's Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, dementia, or some other mental disability. Once again, this information would have helped explain Diana's mental state, for example, perhaps her mother's mental deterioration began when she was Diana's age and she fears it happening to her. However, since the issue is never addressed, the audience is left to wonder.

It was interesting that they had the female be the adult praying on a student. Usually, we tend to always see Men behaving badly. Great performance, showing one bad decision after another.

Going into this review, it should be noted that this is a completely biased review coming from someone who has always had the fantasy of a teacher coming onto him. However, as my final year of high school is beginning to wind down, it seems as if this fantasy will never become a reality. However, thanks to the silver screen, I can fulfill my fantasy through the characters and Will Brittain did an excellent job in this movie portraying that character in my mind.

There may be a couple of minor spoilers throughout this review but none of them will spoil the main storyline; therefore, if you're reading my review before the movie to see if you want to drop $2.99 on it or if you're reading as a means to make sure your hour and a half on Netflix is worth it, this is the review for you. Many people are pointing out the negatives but no one seems to bring out all the positives and when it comes to the negatives, there are really two things that stuck out in my mind: the beginning and end.

As soon as we begin watching, the relationship between the teacher and student has always escalated sexually. In teacher/student movies, it's always interesting to see how about the relationship begins. This movie took another route. Not even ten minutes in, we receive the first sex scene and let me just say, Lindsay Burdge is a goddess. At the end, we're left with a cliffhanger and to avoid any further spoilers, I'll leave it at that and allow you to watch it yourself. To me, cliffhangers are hit and miss but this was a miss. It would have been interesting to see her actually face the father and the consequences from the school board.

One of the most interesting things about this movie is that the student never exploits the teacher.

The only good thing about this movie was the preview! Just an overall disappointing movie. The story line was ridiculous, the characters had no depth. The ending was horrible. Apart from a few gratuitous mild sex scenes, this movie was totally boring and did not live up to the promise of the preview. I would pay $0.99 for it on a good day but paying $3.99 was a total waste of my money. I should not have to spend money to come up with an appropriate ending for this movie...but I sure could have come up with a hundred different ways other than the one they came up with in this movie! Save your money or rent/buy something else!

The Teacher draws you into its underworld feel. Compelling and startling and I could not stop watching. The actress that plays the teacher is heart-breakingly vulnerable even though she is a predator she is also a victim of her own insecurities and compulsions.

The story was not very good. It was all about the student and teacher having a relationship. Mostly is revolved around these 2 and it doesn't explain much about there characters other than they are seeing one another. Usually when you watch a movie it has supporting actors and explains a little about there characters and you have mini stories with the main story. This movie needs to be redone!

This movie has an interesting story, but it moves very slowly and lacks enough character development explain why people do the things that they do.
