My rule for any book is that I give it 100 pages, and if I am not into it, then I put it down. I am on page 101 and decided to look on Amazon to see if I am crazy and this really is a good book, or if others feel the way I do. I agree with the reviewer that said he/she could not get into the characters and the writing style is choppy. I end up reading it for about 5 minutes at a time and it gets tedious because I can't keep track of who is who so I put it down and go to sleep. This book did not pass my 100 page rule.

While I loved this book it was slow going and did take some time getting into hence the 4 stars. Other than that I loved how each person has to find themselves who they are and who they are going to be. It was an honest account of people and their emotions laid out raw in their greif and anger, and lack of understanding of what one may want or need of another and yet learning how to understand those same feelings and work with each other to give back and give the best to each other.

I purchased this book because I was surprised to have missed something written by Mitchard. I gave it four (instead of five) starts because I don't think it's her best work. However, I always enjoy reading her stories about family dynamics in stressful situations. Mitchard at her next to best is better than most other authors at their very best.

This book touched my soul due to the fact that I am presently going through something very similar today, it was good to know that it was a win-win for the child instead of the adults.

How I choose my star ratings:
1 = Groaner. Probably didn't even finish it.
2 = Yawner. Poorly written or weak story.
3 = Recliner. Sat back in my cozy chair and enjoyed the read.
4 = Page Turner. Hard to put down.
5 = Keeper. A story that stays with me.

Once begun, it is unusual for me not to finish a book. This one will not get finished.

100 pages in I have not developed a liking, hating or empathy for a single character.
The writing style is choppy and hard to follow.
The only clue I have as to where the story is headed is the synopsis on the back cover.

In short, there's just not enough to keep me turning the pages.

A touching story about the death of a sister and daughter and the resulting problems about who should become the guardian of the child left behind, bit of a moral dilemma covering the wishes of the dead mother.
