Book Description

Life has been anything but kind, and everything that can go wrong has. At an age when life should be coming together, and questions should start to be answered, Hope finds herself feeling very alone and terribly confused. As her life spirals out of control, she realizes she needs help. And she needs it quickly.

With the love and support of some dear friends, Hope slowly begins to find her true self, and along the way, she meets someone. Someone who makes her feel like living to see another day might just be worth it.

But with happiness, comes pain. Pain from a past that simply won't be forgotten. Walking a dangerously fine line between joy and utter despair, Hope wonders if happy endings really do exist. And if they do, is there one waiting for her?

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking and Heartwarming all at once! December 19, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This beautifully written novel focuses on Hope, a girl who has almost lost all hope in life. Having hit rock bottom and gone through tragedy after tragedy, Hope discovers the importance of friendship and how to love again and open herself up to new directions in life.

L.M. Stull proves herself to be an amazing writer and story-teller in this gem of a novel. Heartbreaking and heartwarming, Hope's journey becomes all of our journey and takes the reader through all the highs and lows of life. The best part of this book for me was the relationships between Hope and her friends, and the tenderness with which her new love blossoms. Stull has found her voice in this debut novel and I can't wait to read more from her.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is how books should be written - December 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
L.M. Stull has penned a literary classic. Strong words for what could be called a Chick-Lit Romance, but true none-the-less. The realistic emotion portrayed throughout creates more of a personal essay / memoir feel than fiction. The characters are as Hemingway demanded "more real than real." I was immediately drawn into the life of Hope, a woman trying to survive turning thirty as her life implodes. This novel could well be used as a textbook of well written prose. If you are a writer, in any genre, read it. This is how it is done.

As a reader, I totally lost myself in the story - relating more to Hope's trials, failures, fears, and triumphs than you would think a 50 year old man would. The writing drew me in and captured my heart. I cried with Hope and cheered for her. I totally could not put the story down, even reading it at work on my cell phone when I didn't have my Kindle handy. A Thirty-Something Girl is my Must Read of the year. Get it now. Give it to someone you love for Christmas. Author L.M. Stull is someone to watch. I can't wait to read what she writes next.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Thirty Something Girl December 18, 2011

This is an emotional tale about a girl named Hope and her coming to terms with the tragedies of her past. It's an eloquently written story that reveals so many truths to real life and real people. One of the best romance stories I've read in a long time, it also focuses on how special and important frienships are. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who treasures stories of the heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars A master's touch September 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
L. M. Stull has written a novel to rival any I've ever read. Some might call Thirty-Something Girl a story for women, but I have to disagree with that assessment. This is a novel anyone, man or woman, can soak their soul in and feel the real pain of Hope Jackson. Stull's description of depression is so real and heartfelt it brought back the sorrows of my life. A master's touch.

Thirty-Something Girl is also a story of friendship, support and love as Hope's friends gather around her to hold her head above water until she learns to swim again. Hope meets Sam, who is deep in his own woes, and they learn to love and be the one thing each is looking for.

I truly enjoyed LM Stull's writing style, her story and the poetry of her words. Thirty-Something Girl! is a book for anyone who believes in the power of friendship and love. Read and believe

I'm a fan of L M Stull!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top 5 Things to Like About A Thirty-Something Girl June 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
5. It is NSFW, unless your boss puts up with you crying at your desk.
4. You know the book is real, then you know it isn't, then you know... The blurring serves the characters' development well.
3. You'd better be ready to get stripped down to your essence.
2. You'd better be ready to feel your heart being ripped out at the starting blocks.
1. Thirty-something girls rock those summer outfits!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Read of 2011 December 16, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A Thirty-Something Girl, is beautifully written, with words that make you seem as if you are with the characters. Every word described makes you feel as if you are watching a movie instead of reading. The world is beautifully thought up; so realistic that it does take a moment to put down and do something else. I give A Thirty-Something Girl complete five stars. I love the character of Hope and her struggles with love and trying to get back into the world of 'normalcy'. I myself find myself attached to her struggles as being hurt myself, so there is plenty of identifying with her. Not only are we given a glimpse of struggles but there is love there from her friends, which I'm sure all of us can relate to. Before the year ends, read this and fall in love, laugh and enjoy A Thirty-Something Girl by L.M. Stull.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice read! February 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I thought this was nicely written. Stull has a poetic way with words, and I thought some of the ways she renders things were quite lovely. I wasn't crazy about any of the characters. The MC, Hope, didn't seem extremely different in the end, and while she had a lot of external problems, she created a bunch more in her head. Her three BFFs were rather indistinguishable (I kept forgetting their names and who was who), and Sam was a little too "perfect" to be real. He also cried way too easily. And nearly all of the book takes place in the same place. I think it would've been interesting to see Hope and Sam get out more and interact with the world and other people, which would've added depth to their characters.

All in all, an nice read and a lovely debut from a lovely author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope Springs September 5, 2012
Format:Paperback
I was taken aback at how much emotion I felt while reading "A Thirty-Something Girl." I was expecting something a bit lighter, something without the heft that Ms. Stull actually created. But the characters brought real emotion right to my front door. The place was teeming with it.

You'll get no plot re-hash from me. Others do it better and I have no time for such things since I like all readers to truly experience a plot and set of characters without the taint of others' interpretations. What I can and will tell potential readers is that I believe L.M. Stull is a gifted writer. There is an arc here, both to the book and to its main protagonist. She has conjured something that feels real. She has captured a viewpoint as if it really happened to real people. Like really-real and not that 90210 kind of way that glosses it all over. What weight, what trueness in how actual, living, breathing people behave.

My hat remains off to the author. She has done something few have: gotten me to feel deep emotion while I read.
