Book Description

A TICK IN TIME is a middle-grade fantasy-fiction novel with surprising twists, unusual creatures, quirky riddles and some scary moments. Tommy MacArthur is a 6th-grader who is spending the summer at his grandparents’ with his younger brother. Though he is warned not to run past the old pendulum clock he does, of course, and the clock ticks when it should have tocked and Tommy is plunged into another dimension. He navigates through a number of adventures before stumbling upon the solution to returning. When he shows his new friend, Noelle, how to slip into the strange land, the two of them fearlessly explore. However their younger siblings have followed them through the portal and that means trouble. And who or what will follow them back?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Well Written Children's Fantasy April 2, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I must admit in all honesty that A Tick In Time was a pleasure to read, even for an adult. Debra Chapoton has proven herself to be an accomplished, imaginative author with this story. A Tick In Time is definitely a most delightful tale with descriptions of an imaginative world inhabited by various unique creatures, as well as individuals displaying an array of unusual customs. Her main characters are believable and easy to like. She opens the door to a fantasy world that invokes a sense of awe and interest, where things that could be frightening turn out to be more innocent and non-threatening in the end, from rocks that exude ooze to locks that spit the scent of skunk, and escape routes that suddenly appear out of nowhere when situations become too sticky. I highly recommend this entertaining book. It is suitable for children to read to themselves, as well as for parents to read to the younger ones.
