Image of Babyland

Babyland was created in the fall of 1989 as an independent multimedia art project by Dan Gatto (electronics/vocals) and Smith (percussion/noise). Inspired by the wide range of cultural references current in Los Angeles at that time, such as acid house and punk rock, the purpose was to create a new voice of defiance and self-reliance that could some-how rise above the endless monotony of the ... They're back for another round with their second album. This album flows really well but is not a huge departure from their first, but the progression of their experience and style are still visible and exciting. What makes this one one of my personal faves is the cover of "PINK FROST", a bone chilling recreation of a very intimate song originally by a band called The Chills. A Total Let Down is far from that on a consumer scale. Even your pets will dance to this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't let the title decieve you February 14, 2003
Format:Audio CD
A change in direction from their previous release, while maintaining the spirit of the sound. It's a different direction, but equally good as anything they've done. has songs available, please check them out. There is only one Babyland.
Recommended to anyone who is looking for a TRULY unique band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Electro Junk Punk April 30, 2001

This album is a classic. All of the songs have great lyrics and soul lacking in much industrial-type music these days. Live junk percussion and cheap synthesizers are meshed with clever sample selection and abrasive but intelligent vocalization. Highly recommended. Anything but a total let down...

5.0 out of 5 stars Down in the dumpsters, and darn proud of it! October 29, 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Being the second Babyland CD, this one stumbles through some unusual ideas that seem to have been leftover from the era of the first release, such as the increadibly strange "Suitable For Framing," plus some outstanding and completely new ideas such as "Worst Case Scenario" and "Dismissal" - both of which are more or less live hits for the band. (interestingly - MPEG videos for these two songs appear on the "A Total Let-Down" CD). All in all it's an excellent listen - with no two songs sounding alike and some GREAT details to be found within each of them. This record goes especially well with rainy days and depressing moods.
