My son had it and asked me to read it to my granddaughter. It is a beautiful book from the writing to the pictures. I read the book to her, and halfway through I had tears in my eyes. One would only hope that heaven is exactly as this book explains it. It would make a lovely gift for any child.

My kids and I enjoyed this book. It is filled with beautiful illustrations and really gets your imagination going as to who you will see one day in Heaven, and what you would like to be able to do when you get there. It certainly breaks the boring, stand around in white dresses singing in the clouds sort of image.

Is is Biblical? Well, he's used creative licence for sure. I'm sure roller coasters weren't ever specifically mentioned, but I do believe Heaven will be a wonderful place - and if that's the case, fun must be included. It stands to reason. The kids and I discussed the fact that what's in the book are his ideas of what Heaven is like, but that God is preparing a wonderful place for us. I didn't come across anything that I felt contradicted what the Bible says about Heaven. We loved it.

I received this book from Harvest House for the purpose of an honest review. My opinion is my own. Thank you Harvest House.

Title: A Travel Guide to Heaven for Kids
Author: Anthony DeStefano
Illustrator: Erwin Madrid
Publisher: Harvest House Publishers
ISBN: 978-0-7369-5509-6

"When people die, they come to live here. They leave their home on Earth, and they come to live in God's home - heaven!" Gabby explains to Joey in Anthony DeStefano's children's book, "A Travel Guide to Heaven for Kids."

At thirty-two pages, this over-sized hardback book is targeted toward young children, especially those who ask what happens after we die and when we go to heaven. Eluding the issue of hell, there is no profanity or scary scenes. Illustrator Erwin Madrid's drawings are majestic, expressive, and colorful, stimulating a young reader to further consider what heaven will be like.

In this short tome, little Joey has asked his mother where people go when they die and she says they go to heaven to be with Jesus. Sadden that people and animals die, Joey goes to bed but has trouble sleeping.

Right as he drifts off to sleep, there is a tapping at his window and it is his guardian angel, Gabby, asking him if he would like to take a tour of heaven on her special flying suitcase. Inquisitive Joey puts on a golden visitor name tag and jumps on the case for an exciting ride.
After entering heaven's pearly gates, Gabby shows him a place where everyone is happy and hugging each other. Besides seeing beautiful colors, deep rich landscapes, cities with streets of gold, and being able to fly around the entire galaxy, there are roller coasters, bumper cars, and all kinds of animals including dinosaurs.

Gabby then shows Joey the best part of heaven - where God lives forever. But before he sees God, time is up and Joey is taken back home in time for school the next morning.

This book was so helpful, my 6 yr old Great granddaughter had been asking so many questions about what Heaven would be like. We have had many talks about relatives, who have passed and I would tell her they went to heaven to live with Jesus. After reading A Travel Guide To Heaven, Olivia looked up at me and said Grandma, heaven really is a beautiful place and someday I will see Great ,Great Grandma Grace. I would highly recommend this book.

I purchased this book because I am in the middle of a series about Heaven for my K-3rd graders in Sunday School. I explained to the kids that this is someone's imagining of what Heaven will be like. When that perspective is given the book is great. There is biblical basis for almost everything and the kids LOVED it. I highly recommend this book.

This is not a theological book. Although, two of the reviewers speak as if it should be one. It is a children's book. Yet, it is filled with theology. It teaches about the subject. It is a tool. Let me give an example. At a recent funeral, there were two great grand daughters who came, 4 and 5 years old. It was a surprise. They were not at the wake. What do parents tell their children to prepare them for such an event? Basically, "Nana, or in this case Great Nana, has gone to heaven." Incredibly, children grasp this more than we would expect. I have seen this over and over.

The gospel reading for the Funeral was a very familiar one: "Jesus said to his disciples: 'Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be. Where I am going you know the way.' Thomas said to him, 'Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?' Jesus said to him, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'" (John 14:1-6).

Referring to this, and that the Apostle Thomas admitted that they did not know they way to heaven, it was very easy to ask these children if "they knew the way?" Of course, they did not. But believing that their Nana was there, the next logical question was, "Would you like to know the way to where Nana is?" They immediately said you-know-what, "Yes!" The next step was to pull out Anthony DeStefano's book and show them this could explain some of it. First of all, they were taken in by some of the pictures.
