Born on a Baja, California beach in 1959, new hatchling Sammy must do what his fellow newborn sea turtles are doing: race across the beach to the ocean before they are captured by a seagull or crab. Thus begins Sammy's incredible fifty-year ocean journey. Along the way he meets his best friend, a fellow turtle named Ray, and overcomes obstacles both natural and man-made while trying to fulfill his dream of travelling around the world. Throughout his voyage, Sammy never forgets about Shelly - the turtle he saved on his first day and loves passionately from afar. Based on the actual trajectory of a sea turtle's life, the film illustrates the dangers humans pose to the species' survival. The film combines entertainment with an important environmental message.

This movie doesn't get enough credit. So glad we gave it a chance. It's right there with disney/pixar or dream works. The graphics are beautiful and the music is wonderful as well. My 3 year old loves it. The cover of this movie just doesn't do it justice. I wish they'd make more animal movies like this and stay away from those weird animated movies.

The story follows an actual sea turtle's life. Of course there are liberties taken, such as the turtle's best friend and love interest. But overall the story is based on true life events of a tracked sea turtle. There are some big names in this movie including: Melanie Griffith, Kathy Griffin, and Tim Curry. (I heart Tim Curry, by the way.) Our main character, Sammy, goes through a lot in the fifty years from when he was born, including dealing with both man made and natural obstacles- but through it all he keeps his head up and his thoughts on his lady turtle friend from birth, Shelly. There are strong tones of environmentalism in this film, so be ready for some questions in regard to this.

LOVE this movie, but the digital copy is a scam!!! Does NOT work with Apple!

My 18 month old daughter is absolutley obsessed with this movie! It's so cute! I was so excited to find the blu ray with digital copy, but once I opened the package I learned it's a web based digital copy and only mentions it inside that it's NOT Apple compatible. I am very disappointed that we can't load it onto our ipad like every other digital copy.

No 3D???
This is regarded as one of the best 3D Blu-Ray titles out there, but it's only available in 3D from other countries. This US edition is 2D only! Whose bright idea was THAT??

Wonderful my grandson loves it watches it everyday. I recommend it for kids of all ages boys or girls and I have even watched it with him love it.

Amazing movie you've never heard of.
We found this movie on Netflix, and it's a great story with wonderful music. It's easy to watch this several times. My kids (especially my two year old daughter) love this movie.

came exactly like it would from the store

Safe and entertaining for little ones!
This movie is my 3 yr old son's favorite right now. I think the animation is great; it has a good clean storyline; and I don't mind sitting through it myself.
