Editorial Reviews

Review

This is an engaging second chance at love amateur sleuth starring a Dona Quixote heroine who vows to uncover the truth. Her persistent inquiry leads to murder while Alanna also realizes she still loves Jonathan. He has issues to as he has another woman in his life. Readers will relish this fabulous return to Mackinac Island with Alanna and Jonathan as our tour guides; if they survive her investigation and if she stays.
(Harriet Klausner The Midwest Book Review 20120624)

Book Description

Mackinac Island is accessible only by ferry or small plane. Its laid back pace, sans cars, is the perfect place to recover from hurt—unless the injury occurred there. As Alanna Stone tries to reconcile past to present she discovers her future lies in learning to listen to God.

More About the Author

Since the time I could read Nancy Drew, I have wanted to write mysteries. In 2005 I attended a book signing at my local Christian bookstore. The rest, as they say, is history. There I met Colleen Coble. With prompting from my husband, I shared my dream with Colleen. Since those infamous words, I've been writing books.

My fifteenth novel releases in fall 2013 with a story of my heart releasing in February 2014, and I have also written one non-fiction title (the Complete Idiots Guide to Business Law).

In addition to writing, I am an attorney, lecturer at a Big Ten university, active in women's ministry, and all around crazy woman. Crazy about God, my husband and my kids. I graduated with honors from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (Go Huskers!) and George Mason Law School. You can learn more about my books at http://www.caraputman.com.

4.0 out of 5 stars A FUN, LIGHT MYSTERY WITH A SPLASH OF SUSPENCE March 24, 2012
Format:Paperback
If you like a fun, contemporary, light mystery with a splash of suspense, then A WEDDING TRASPIRES ON MACKINAC ISLAND by CARA C. PUTMAN is a novel you'll want to be sure to read.

Attorney Alanna Stone has avoided Mackinac Island, and the man she loved for over a decade. When her mother summons her back to that very place, she goes but not without trepidation. The man she loved had betrayed her, but he wasn't the only reason she fled the Island. As luck would have it she bumps into Jonathan Covington shortly after arriving on Mackinac Island. Alanna soon finds herself in the mist of the very reason she stayed away from the Island for so long.

After Alanna left Mackinac Island, Jonathan lost interest in relationships. His heart was for one woman and one woman only...and she'd disappeared from his life long ago. Shocked to see Alanna return, he wonders if it's too late for them.

Alanna and Jonathan have past issues that must be resolve before they can open their hearts to one another again...but with God, all things are possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Romantic Suspense May 9, 2012
Format:Paperback
I love, love, love Cara Putman's novels. She's one of those authors whose writing sucks you in from the first letter and keeps you there until the page turns. Then you feel as though your BFF moved away because the book is over and you have to wait months for the next Putman book to be released.

Fine. I'll stop gushing.

So this novel takes place on Mackinac Island - a place I have been and must say, Cara totally captured the essence that is the island. You will feel like you're really there. It's distinct culture is captivating and the pages capture it well.

The characters nab you right from the beginning. Alanna Stone has avoided coming home but her parent's plea wins and she returns to a place she fears will ruin her privacy and life. Jonathan Covington (how's that for a great surname?) may have been her first love, but he was also her first lesson in betrayal. (I stole that sentence from the back cover because it rocked!).

The book itself is not merely a romance and by no means a women's lit fiction. It's filled with intrigue and suspense. Murder -- yes -- murder. Love it! Well, I don't really love murder, but in a book ... okay ... you catch my drift. If the characters survive this book it might be a miracle, but of course, I won't tell because that would be considered a spoiler. I don't do spoilers.

Don't be fooled by the title. It's not a simplistic coffee table romance about a cutesy wedding on a fairy tale island. It's more like, a stolen kiss right before the gun goes off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! May 6, 2012
By Shondra
Format:Paperback
I loved reading of the Mackinac Island area, learning of the unique secrets this place holds. From different landmarks to visit, to more specific scenic routes to take, this book left me longing to visit the area!

When I first started reading the story, I didn't realize what I was getting myself into. While there was definitely a "romance" storyline to follow, I was more intrigued by the mystery that kept unfolding! The author, Cara C. Putman, does an excellent job in drawing the reader into the story. At times, there were multiple mystery lines to follow...and while I was pretty sure I had the one figured out, the other two were not so easy!

I also loved how Putman brought Alanna's past to light, allowing her to work through some aspects of her teen years to allow for continued healing in her present life. It's a great reminder to us that although the past is best left in the past, sometimes you need to go back in order to move forward!
