My doctor uses this Meter in his office. His results seem to agree with my Glucose test readings. Previously, my results agreed with my Glucose test readings. Recently my results were out of line with my Glucose test readings and were 2 points higher than the doctors readings. I bought the recent Meter from the Pharmacy of a major Grocery Store Chain. I am very careful with the testing procedure, so I suspect that 1. The recent meter was not stored properly by the distribution (may have dried out the mixing solution) or 2. That Bayer is having production problems or 3. My recent experience is a random failure of the system. It is possible that my recent Meter was not produced by Bayer (was a knockoff).
Even though the A1C is supposed to be a 3 Month average, I read that the A1C may respond more to recent blood sugar than it does to older blood sugar. That makes sense because there should be a greater quantity of recently produced blood cells than of older blood cells. It is informative to take A1C every month to indicate a trend.
I am an Electrical Engineer and find the highly sophisticated inner construction of this meter amazing. There are two nearly separate test paths, each with a measuring detector and a reference detector. How do they produce such a sophisticated system at such a low cost?
The test procedure is: 1. Wash the hands. 2. Prick a fingertip. 3. Squeeze the finger to get a 1/8 inch diameter blood drop. 4. Bring the Blood Collector tube to the Blood Drop so that the tube is completely filled. 5.Read more ›
I found its results were way off from lab results done within.
1 hour. A1c tests should not vary much if done within close
proximity since A1c reflects 2-3 months average.
For me it was off by a count of 1.2 which is unacceptable.
.1 .2 or even .3 is understandable but 1.2 ? that's as good
as no test done.
After the 5 minutes were up, I read the results. The one test diagnosed my A1C at 6.3 and the other diagnosed it at 5.4. That's a significant difference. I realize that there may be many factors relating to the storage of this product before it's shipped that could return erroneous results. But that makes it even worse and you still can't trust the outcome of the test. The fact is, the test results didn't even come close to matching, even with all things being equal.
My analysis indicates that you positively cannot trust the test results from this product, as it's currently being sold. If you want accurate A1C results, have the test done by a lab, not an at-home test kit.
