4.0 out of 5 stars Looks like they pulled in another fan in me..., April 30, 2002
This review is from: A2g (Audio CD)
I've only started to get fairly heavily into hip-hop recently (though I've dabbled for years). People I've talked to strongly recommend Blackalicious in general, so I thought I'd try to ease in with this EP. The verdict: Damn. Why haven't I been listening to them from the beginning, again? My review: what everyone else said, emphatically supported. It only didn't get a 5 because I like to reserve 5s for records that are absolutely life-changing. This one isn't, but it's still WONDERFUL. Oh, and Blackalicious just released a new album (today). Looks like I have some shopping to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars For real this CD contains the most nutritional hip hop today, September 28, 1999

Gift-a-Gab rips the mic every which way. I can't take this out of my discman. The lyrics and the rhymes on every song are so nice. Big ups to the Quannum crew for the production of the sickest hip hop you can get. PEACE

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, July 29, 1999

This EP is one of the smoothest, groovinest, positive things I've ever heard. The rap is unmatched and doesn't need to boast. Full of positive lyrcis - no gangsta and "ho" lyrics. What it does have is speed, groove, tight flows and great mixing to back it all up. Yes, there is hope for hip hip.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back to the essence!!, May 22, 1999

It's great to see Blackalicious back on the scene; Gift of Gab providing the lyrics and Chief Xcel hookin up the production.

ATTENTION: All heads should purchase their new domestic release, A2G EP. Dope in every essential aspect.. beats, rhymes, and so on. For some reason, Amazon.com won't list the tracks, so I'll do it for y'all.

I can't wait for their LP to be released!

5.0 out of 5 stars BLACKALICIOUS came with it! Now get it!, May 19, 1999

Cannot say enough about how tight this EP is. The WHOLE thing (not exaggeratin'!) The first single "A2G" is one of the most inventive, original, and exciting songs I've heard in a while. Gift of Gab attacks the very first rhyme that most of us learned (the alphabet) with the wit, imagination, and lyrical mastery of a modern day word-warrior.... And of course, Chief X-Cel comes with the bumpin, body shakin, elevatin' beats that make you want to listen to it again, and again, and again, and again. Like I said, ALL the songs are musically and lyrically tight, especially "Deception"-- my god, and "Alphabet Aerobics" which you just have to hear to fully experience how dope it is.... Anyway, I could go on and on, about this EP, and how it's good to see them doing their thing after 4 years. If this EP is an indicator of what the album is gonna be like,it's been worth the wait.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strong preview from Blackalicious, June 22, 1999

This review is from: A2g (Audio CD)
DMX & Jay-Z fans, WARNING: Listening to real hip-hop like Blackalicious may be detrimental to your health.

Positive:

A strong performance from Black, with tight lyrics over above average beats. "Clockwork" alone makes this EP worth buying. "Alphabet Aerobics" has more content in the rhymes than all the lyrics of DMX amassed. I certainly thought this was a purchase worth its $7 price. A good buy for the hip-hop listener.

Negative:

Not a 5-star however. I probably wouldve given this a 3 1/2 if I could have, but I rounded up. Not a classic, not a "must-have", but a ceratain "should-buy".

Overall Ratings:

Beats - 3 Lyrics - 4

Overall - 3.5

Best Song : Clockwork

Beat : 4.5 Lyrics : 4

Peace
