I've been a ThinkPad user for years but this Asus is of equal quality for sure.
USB 3.0 port.
The aluminum construction means the computer runs very cool and quiet. This is a laptop that is comfortable to use on your lap.
Good battery life.
Good sized hard drive.
One year accident coverage.
Jitter free video.
Touch pad sometimes oversensitive.
Letters on keyboard are hard to see in low light.
Number pad cramped, and no bump on the "5" key makes touch typing difficult
No volume wheel for the speaker -- you have to do this with software. No dedicated media control buttons.
Sound is tinny, but not that bad for a portable of this size.
Hard drive is partitioned so that one partition (C:) is for the OS and programs and the other (D:) is for data. While this is very nice, the libraries are set to be on the C partition. However, moving them D partition is not very difficult.
Overall, this was exactly what we were looking for.
I will say that it worked pretty well for the few hours of life the poor thing had on this Earth. It was nice to look at, had a reasonable weight, and the attached numerical pad was great. Back-lit keys would have been nice but, given the low price, you can't expect everything.
We did call tech support and they walked us through the normal steps of troubleshooting ("Yes, it's plugged in..."), and they told us we could ship it back to them for repair, but at the end of the day, we just decided to cut our losses and get a refund from Amazon.
I was really expecting more from an Asus.
