PreSchool-Grade 3–This entry in the alphabet genre takes an inventive approach, highlighting words in which letters appear twice in a row. So Aaron Aardvark plays with Isaac Aardwolf for AA, while TT features a little kitten. Some letters are easier to double up than others, which adds to the fun. The EE page includes peep, beep, peeking, speedy, and several others. WW, on the other hand, requires a bit more stretching for a URL (www.kitty.cat), plus a bowwow from the dog that views it. Many of the examples are printed, usually as signs or labels, or within the word bubbles of the talking animals. This allows prereaders to spot the double letters even if they are not quite ready to read or understand all of the words. Some scenes include double-letter items without a written clue, such as the squirrel with a carrot in RR, which provides an extra challenging element for older readers. The playful watercolor illustrations depict a large cast of characters interacting in a variety of humorous settings. Colorful figures like the vacuuming horse and the happy, hippie hippo lend the right touch of wackiness to the visual presentation. About the Author

Mark Shulman is the prolifiic author of all sorts of kids' books, including A Is for Zebra, another way to look at the alphabet. He's written about sharks, tornadoes, cows, robots, and foxes. He wrote a book about how to make videos, and he recently published a novel, "Scrawl." --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

I like this book because it has double letters instead of just regular abc's and my brother really likes the part of the book that says "ww is for www.kitty.cat". We make my mom read it over and over again. Kids will love this book.

This is a fun one that even young ones will enjoy as they search for the double letters in the words. Kindergarten and up will have fun and they'll also broaden their vocabulary. The illustrations are silly and inviting--it's almost like a search-and-find book looking for those double letters! First and second graders will strengthen their spelling skills.
