Your Guide to Innsbruck and Salzburg and Beyond,
By JAD (The Sunshine State) - See all my reviews
This review is from: AAA Essential Austria (AAA Essential Guides: Austria) (Paperback)
What a great little companion volume to take with you on your next visit to Austria. The sections on Salzburg and Innsbruck are both super. The step by step walking tour of the old town of Innsbruck can be followed exactly and it will give you a very nice look at what is one of Europe's most picturesque towns. Don't miss going up one of the two mountains--what a thrill. The alpine garden on top of the Patscherkofel(7369 feet) is great. We enjoyed ascending nearly a mile-and-a-half up the Patscherkofel, gliding over treetops and the Olympic bobsled run via cable car, and then taking in the breathtaking panoramic views of the city far below us, the Dolomites, the Ötztal and Stubai Alps, Zugspitze Mountain, and beyond. There we encountered authentic Tyrolean mountain hikers in their lederhosen, clambered through Europe's highest-lying botanical garden of 400 species of Alpine plants, and breathed bracingly cool air! The section on Salzburg is equally helpful. Be sure to go inside all of the churches; they are inspiringly magnificent. The churchyard "where the Von Trapps hid" is relaxing, soothing, amid amazing floral displays. Ride the funicular up to the Hohensalzburg - for the view! Take this book with you and you will find it a big help. |
