Buy it for the CD,

This review is from: AACN Certification and Core Review for High Acuity and Critical Care, 6e (Paperback)
I bought several items to study for the CCRN. I found the CD for this book (it comes with it) to be the most helpful part of my preparation for the test. Since AACN puts this out, I assumed the practice test questions would be more indicative of what I would find on the actual CCRN test and this turned out to be correct. I highly recommend using the CD for most of your practice question review. The rationale section teaches you how AACN wants you to answer these questions. I passed with an overall score of 89% and scored a 100% on many sections with 95% on cardiac and over 90% on pulmonary. I also used the Pass CCRN materials and found the review book to have way too much information than necessary. I thought the CD portion was very helpful, but the practice questions were a lot harder than what you'll find on the actual test. It's a great resource to have on hand, but I'd recommend you invest in a good review series like a DVD review from Laura Gasparis or David Woodruff's series ([...]). I used Woodruff's series mainly for the bulk of the review. He has an iPod series that has all the basic information you need to pass the test while Pass CCRN is a complete comprehensive review of topics that will never show up on the CCRN. I usually recommend to friends that they get an overall review like Gasparis or Woodruff, and this AACN book with the CD to practice questions. Good luck!

Good Study Guide. I would suggest this book after you have taken a CCRN review course. This book is just questions, so if you need to know in what area you need more practice this book is not for you. Overall okay book.

not a refrence, just questions! Very Helpful!!!,
This review is from: AACN Certification and Core Review for High Acuity and Critical Care, 6e (Paperback)
Don't buy this book as a reference. It is only Questions. Between the book and CD u get about 1200 questions. I just passed the exam w/ 90% right. The questions in this book are MORE difficult than the actual CCRN questions. This book is an excellet resource! I highly recomend it!

This is the best book to read if you are preparing to take CCRN.It covers topics within the CCRN test plan and will give you detailed explanation why it is or isn't the correct answer. Very informative! Good luck to all who plan to take CCRN, by the way, I passed it. :-)

I just took the CCRN exam and passed. I used three references: 1) Pass CCRN 2) this book and 3) Critical Care Nursing Certification. I would rank them in that order. This book is only questions, which many reviewers have already mentioned. It is a helpful learning resource. I really wanted/hoped for this to be the best study guide. I figured since AACN put this book out the questions would be similar to it on the exam. However, with my testing experience, I have to say that the question on the actual exam I took seem to be much more similar to the questions found on the Pass CCRN CD, rather than this one. That being said, I still appreciated this book as an alternative resource for learning. The CD is awesome. Its questions from the book and a few more. You can select either exam or study mode. In exam mode you have 150 questions with similar proportions to an actual exam. In study mode you can select any range of questions from 1-498 (the max amount available) in any category you want. So for example, if you struggle with pulmonary (like I did) you can study all 82 questions in just that category. As you answer each question in study mode you get instant feedback of "incorrect" or "correct." When you finally answer correct you get the rational of why. This really helped me in my learning of the critical care material. Overall, I highly recommend this book and enjoyed studying with it!

If you buy the kindle edition of this book, you will not get any of the online resources of the 3 extra exams. You might as well spend 2 extra dollars and get the book in print with the CD that has the 3 extra exams on it

If you want to get your CCRN, I persuade you completely to use the book as one of your top three aids! I used this book as my last study aid during my last month before my test and prior to read the entire book "Pass CCRN", also saw the Laura Gasparis Review DVDs, she is an excellent resource, the questions are chosen fom the AACN corporation, therefore you can't go wrong with this book! The questions definetly prepare you for what the test is about! I was so excited to get my CCRN last month! Good Luck!

I just passed the CCRN with 113 correct answers. I took a 2 day CCRN course with Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio before I started looking at these questions. In retrospect, I would use the CD that accompanies the book only (don't buy the kindle version as you probably won't get the CD with it - not sure but that is just my best guess) - you can test your knowledge in the study mode and by system review so you can see where you are weak. The questions on the CD are repeated from the book plus some extra questions. To help me get a greater understanding of the content where I was weak, I suggest "Critical Care Nursing Certification" by Thomas Ahrens, Donna Prentics and Ruth Kleinpell. Again, buy the book and not the kindle (with that book I didn't get a CD that comes with the book). Keep in mind, I was getting 61% consistently on the practice tests so if that is happening to you, don't worry, just keep praciticing.

I just passed the CCRN. I used only this book and cd took a review course (2 day course) and listened to a review course on cd in my car 1 hour a day just before i took the exam. I studied at the library buy 1.taking 1 of 3 exams a day in the book then 2 correcting it and reading all the rationales for all the questions in the exam I mean all of them. Then retake the exam usually I get 95% after correcting and rationale reading now try to do this in a 2-4hr period for each exam in the book. Then look at questions in the cd lots are the same just repeating the same question but thats ok you are learning and biulding your knowledge always read the rationales as much as you can . Take the exam on the CD and read the rationales after taking the exam. I say I put in a good 16-20 hrs total in a 2 week period at the library with this book. I got a 83% on the ccrn exam. I have seen other books and questions are way to out there and rationales are worse you are wasting your time. This is the book you need. Good Luck

Several of the nurses I work with suggested using this particular study guide. Since every one of them had passed, I certainly jumped on the bandwagon. When at work, I ask them, well was this type of question on the exam. Each answer was always the same, YES! I like the way the book is divided into two sections and there is a CD to download on your computer!!I highly recommend this book if you are serious about studying for the CCRN Exam!! Good luck! |
