1.0 out of 5 stars response from AAS

I received the following response from AAS when I asked what kind of phone service was required for their auto dialer.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your inquiry.

If you are using a land line ( a copper line) and connect your land line to your AAS system, you will be able to use the auto-dialer and remote access...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good value; it works as advertised, April 16, 2010

First, I was skeptical because the online info and documentation was limited. I made the gamble due to good reviews. I am happy to report that it is a good product. Packaging was light, OEM style. Instructions were simple and easy to follow; but lacked specifications and some function descriptions. Still not sure about the "anti-interference defense" feature, but figured out the difference between "home" and "away" mode. All of the systems appear to be the same; some with more or less sensors. Overall the system performed as stated; very good DIY value!
Pro:
All the parts and features came as stated (the siren is the size of a fist and it's white; not red & black as pictured)
Very good range on sensors and controls - with antennas that can be pull out to extent the range
AC powered plus rechargeable battery in the control unit - other sensors are powered by common batteries.
The nonadjustable siren is very loud, like fire alarm, and the construction looks like it could be placed outside, if protected from weather
4 handy "key fob" (car remote size) has 4 buttons, lock (armed/away), unlock, home, and panic. the difference between "home" and "away" is "home" deactivates IR / motion sensors and the alarm will sound if the door / window sensors tripped. "panic" activates the alarm and the control unit will call the 6 user programmed phone numbers.
Wireless! You can take this alarm system WITH you; hotels, warehouse, summer cabin. or create cross Motion IR sensors to eliminate blind spots
Con:
Siren wire(connected to control unit), about 3ft, is short and piercing siren volume is nonadjustable; I was told they have optional wireless siren
No warning stickers or signs
limited descriptions (you will have questions)

The keypad control is common size; the Motion IR sensors is palm size; the door sensors are a bit large, 2"x3" size.
One door sensor did not work. I call the company and the lady was very pleasant and promised she will send me the replacement.
Setup, testing and planning took most of the 2 hour installation time. The actual installation took 15 min. thanks to taped-on door sensors. The tape is strong, make sure you do it right the first time.

I've installed my AAS alarm about three weeks ago. Installation is easy, the motion detector sensors works very well, my cat and my little dog doesn't active it as the previous alarm system that I have. The remote works well, and also the phone notification.
In few words, the product works as indicated.

Great Product, easy installation, wireless no tethering so motion sensor can be placed anywhere or adjusted. Delivery took about a week which maybe due to bad weather in the East. More details would be helpful in the manuals. For example, this is my first home alarm and I have no idea what the difference is between arming the system as 'away' versus 'home'.

I received the following response from AAS when I asked what kind of phone service was required for their auto dialer.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your inquiry.

If you are using a land line ( a copper line) and connect your land line to your AAS system, you will be able to use the auto-dialer and remote access feature for sure.
As far as I know, comcast does provide phone service along with your internet service but that is NOT a land line. Therefore, auto-dialer from AAS will not work in your case.

Please feel free to contact us for any questions.

Thanks,

AAS INC.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good DIY Alarm System for the Money, September 11, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: AAS 400 Wireless Home Security Alarm System Kit DIY (R) (Electronics)
I purchased the AAS 400 alarm system and out of the box it is very straight forward. The manual is slightly lacking and could use some revision but the system is easy to setup despite the manual. The door and window sensors are great and I found that setting them up by placing the bigger box on the door first and then gently sticking the smaller box down works best to ensure that it triggers when you open the door or window. Furthermore the two way tape on the sensors is very sticky so you want to be sure your placement is perfect. Other people have recommended laying everything out on a table and programming the items you will need first, this helps as well as making a note of which sensors are where in the house, because when the alarm triggers it will notify you of the exact sensor triggered.

The main box is easy to use also, and is not too over sized however all jacks are out the side except for the power jack which has an opening carved out the back for it. Take some time to plan how and where you will place this box, since it is best to have it located near a phone line, its own electrical outlet and an area that is not too obvious. Because the AAS 400 only comes with an indoor siren (which is definitely loud and ear piercing), it must be plugged into the main box, the problem here is that if someone finds the box and hears the alarm they could simply unplug the siren and the alarm is no longer functional. On the other hand if someone does break in and hears the alarm it maybe enough for them to leave immediately. I would recommend getting an AAS model system that has the wireless outdoor siren, as the indoor siren is loud but cannot be heard from out side if all the doors and windows are closed.

All in all the AAS 400 is a great DIY alarm system it has its minor flaws but without having to pay monthly fees it does the job thats needed. Other great features are the ability to connect to a phone line and dial out if anything happens when you are away, as well as the key fobs which have great range and are much easier then going to the box to disarm it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy and Complete DIY Home Security Kit, February 3, 2012

Got this package 3 days before estimated delivery date. :]

As other's have mentioned, read the instructions first. It's a lot easier to program the sensors before you mount them. Planning/layout will take most of the time, actual install is a breeze. Mark the sensors with a sharpie depending on what zone you want them in, then program them per instructions (written well). The motion sensors work very well for such an affordable package (super sensitive). The the key chain remotes are also very handy.

I'm happy.
