This is one of the most essential tools in my arsenal. It accurately converts PDFs to Excel spreadsheets, or Word documents - leaving me in complete control to force treatment of parts of the document as graphics.

In converting files to PDFs it is a most efficient converter - Other previously used print to PDF programs would give me files 4 to 10 times as large as this program does. It is a great program.

This product is great. The best part is that it will convert PDFs to OCR WITHOUT CHANGING THE FORMAT - so what you see in the PDF is what you get after the conversion, not a muddled mess. This includes graphics, photos, legal pleadings, etc. You do have to go through and double check for typos - but the conversion rate is about 98%. I am not aware of any other program that will do the conversion as well. Well worth the money if you do PDF conversions. And if you just want to convert documents to PDF, without all the other bells and whistles that Adobe gives you, it is very functional for that too.

The product is refreshingly easy to use: you browse to the pdf you want to read, click one button, and Word opens with the converted text. The OCR is great! There only one caveat: on my order, the CD came loose in shipping and scraped around on the spindle that was supposed to be holding it. It was unreadable on receipt. Amazon sent a replacement (promptly) that also arrived with the CD loose and scratched .. but readable this time. All in all, I'm very satisfied.

I've used Adobe's free PDF reader for a long time. But of course it won't let you create pdf files or edit them. You can buy the Adobe upgrade - but it costs much more than this AND they make it virtually impossible to use the same software on multiple computers if you have more than one.

The ABBYY PDF transformer is a great product! I'm impressed. It's easy to use with a simple interface for the user. It allows you to convert Microsoft Office files into PDF documents, edit existing PDF documents, or convert PDF documents into Microsoft office documents.

Much of the desirability of PDF documents arises from fact that PDF documents, unlike Microsoft Office documents, do not carry prior version information. If you open up a typical Microsoft office document you can access prior versions. Sometimes the prior versions have information you deleted and don't want shared.

A PDF file is essentially a graphic file - What you see is what you get, nothing more, and nothing less. By being able to convert a PDF document to Word, for example, you can search or edit the document with word tools. So essentially the PDF converter is also acting like an OCR (Optical Character Reader). This tool does that cleanly with the figures of the original document in place in the created word document.

This software tool works well, it's easy to use, and it's reasonable in cost! You can't go wrong with that!

The only thing that I wish it had was to be able to convert JPEG's directly into a PDF file. You can do that by using Word to import the image file into a word document and then converting to a PDF. In truth this is a very minor thing - Which is why I still gave it 5 stars.

I would recommend this product to people who want to save time and effort. I don't like retyping documents, and this helps me avoid that. If I am preparing a class and a table is in PDF, I can convert it to one of the options available and then take the info I need. Yes, once in a while, the letter "i" may appear as a "1" after the conversion, but I was realistic when I purchased it. It is worth the price. I had also purchased PDF Transformer (Scansoft) a few years ago, and I was left very disappointed. This program works a lot better.
