Excellent palm-sugar soy sauce for marinating and grilling,
By
This review is from: ABC Kecap Manis Sweet Soy Sauce - 21 oz bottle x 2 (Misc.)
I use this as a marinade and basting sauce when grilling satay, steak, pork, salmon, and chicken. Make an easy satay marinade by combining Mae Ploy brand Yellow Curry Paste ( high in lemon grass ), lime juice, creamy peanut butter, some sambal olek (or substitute red chili flakes), and a little canned coconut milk ( optional ).
Friends that have tried it love it. I tell them I do not really think of it as a condiment, however, I sometimes pour in a small drizzle on rice or use as a dipping sauce. It is a molasses-like combination of palm sugar and soy sauce. I always try to keep some in stock in my kitchen.

Delicious, Surprising,

This is richer and more complex than your average (U.S.) grocery store soy sauce. Think of the difference between Guiness and a lager, both beer, but worlds apart.
This is an excellent marinade, stir fry sauce, and barbeque base. I really enjoy it on rice with a little butter too.

You have got to be kidding on the price of this!!
I have bought this product for years all across Canada including the far north and Vancouver island and have NEVER paid more than 6.00 CD. Most often it is less than 4.00 CD. It is a fabulous product if you like a sweet thick sauce. I was first introduced to cacip manus 15 years ago by my Dutch inlaws who spent several years in Indonesia. Another brand is Kikkoman but is is much pricier. I guess this seller thinks he will use that as a guideline.

Wonderfully different,

This condiment adds a delightfully different touch to so many foods. I use it regularly. It is also available in many asian/chinese grocery stores. My last bottle cost $1.95 without shipping (I carried it home). I hope the Amazon price at least includes shipping.

Couldn't make Indonesian type foods without this. It is the sort of standard Indonesian condiment, you see this bottle and its green sour counterpart on every table in every little warung in the archipelago practically. This is sweet soy sauce, so it has sugar in it and it has a syrupy consistency (so don't buy to replace your kikkoman, it is different stuff. The green 'kecap asam' bottle is your more standard variety).
Little known fact but kecap (pronounced ke-chap) was the sauce English people were trying to imitate in creating ketchup (though those early varieties of ketchup were not tomato based, and this product has next to nothing in common with Heinz 57!).

I had never heard of sweet soy sauce. I got some Indomie Mi Goreng, which I love, and one of the four flavor packet had a sweet soy sauce. I was entranced. It tasted a little like molasses but different. I order this because it had so many stars. I love it. Thick, rich and sweet. The bottle is huge and I got two of them. I have been adding it to everything I cook. I had a beef cutlet and rather than bread it, I smeared it with this and fried it. I was amazed. I haven't found anything it doesn't taste good on. A real winner.

Couldn't find this locally anywhere. So happy that I can now make my Indonesian meals with it. May try to source product a little closer to where I live, so it wouldn't be shipped so far, as it came two days late. But otherwise worth the wait.

Had a Indonesian friend cook fried rice and he used this sweet soy sauce. Then many years later tried it on BBQ steak and wow could never eat a plain steak again. Works great with hamburger also. Our local asian store stopped carrying it, so I was happy to find it here on Amazon.
