Book Description

This is an eminently practical guide to teaching in medicine. It is aimed at practitioners who will have to teach in a clinical setting, and is relevant both for those in training and qualified health professionals. There are articles on theory but the emphasis is much more on how to do it.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Color figures and sample evaluation forms make the high quality text an outstanding value. Cantillon is a professor at the National University of Ireland and Wood is director of medical education at the University of Cambridge. Originally published in 2003, the second edition adds three closing chapters on teaching professionalism, faculty development, and supporting students in difficulty." (SciTech Book News, December 2010)

1.0 out of 5 stars A disappointment, June 22, 2008

This review is from: ABC of Learning and Teaching in Medicine (ABC Series) (Paperback)
Normally, I love the BMJ, particularly their reviews. The information contained in this compilation of reviews about medical education is concise, but this is far less of a book than a pamphlet! I was expecting a book that would cover the subject more extensively, an in-depth examination of how to teach medical students, residents and fellows. For nearly 34 dollars one would expect more than 50 pages of journal reprints. Instead, what you get is bulleted text covering medical education in a cursory manner -- truly a disappointment.
