Product Description
The Killing Ground, a 1979 ABC News documentary, narrated by Brit Hume, on the environmental and human health effects of toxic waste dumpsites in Niagara, New York and other locations.
Niagara Falls, New York, 1978, deadly chemicals seeping out of an abandoned waste dump called the Love Canal are blamed for health problems ranging from nervous disorders to birth defects. For the first time, a national emergency is declared because of a chemical waste disaster. The burial of such waste had become common in America for decades but the problem that the chemicals don't stay buried forever was just becoming a realization. There were 32,000 chemical waste dumps in the U.S. in 1980, more than 800 of them were considered dangerous. This ABC News special highlights the threat posed by some of these dumps including Shakopee, Minn, Love Canal, and White Lake, Michigan.
