1.0 out of 5 stars Sharpe is a Charlatan, December 1, 2009
This review is from: ABC of Psychological Medicine (ABC Series) (Paperback)
Sharpe is well known as one of the junk scientists trying to psychopathologize ME (myalgic encephalomyelitis; aka CFIDS/CFS). He writes of ME (CFS) as 'a descriptive term' and then goes on to almost exclusively use the terms 'fatigue' and 'chronic fatigue'. He characterizes it as basically a somatoform disorder with AIB around inappropriate exercise avoidance. Patently false. There have been over 4,000 articles is peer reviewed medical journals showing frank biological pathology in ME. Notes at least partial psychological etiology. He cautions physicians to keep patients away from possibly harmful alternative therapies. What a vivid imagination this man has!
