Okay with some problems,

Much of the content is pretty decent except for 2 areas: 1) storage of breast milk - on the DVD, the mom stores her breast milk on the refrigerator door - which is a big NO-NO. You are supposed to store breast milk inside the refrigerator. The temperature on the refrigerator door is not cold enough. 2). carseat safety - they don't really go over that much and you can tell on the DVD that the baby is strapped in incorrectly.

Perfect for a first time father.,

As a first time father without enough time to read book after book about newborn care, I have found this DVD to be instrumental in learning to care for my newborn. With the factual and straight forward aproach of this video I have been able to successfully take on the care of my newborn without feeling nervous about whether or not I am taking care of my child safely and with the most positive results possible. This DVD is a life saver and a must have for new fathers.

Too basic even for a new mom,

This review is from: ABC's of Newborn Baby Care (DVD)
There are about 18 chapters of information on basic newborn baby care. Each chapter is covered in brief one to three minute sessions and there's no depth in the information. Each content just scratches the surface of newborn care without detail information. If you've already read books or magazine articles on newborn baby care, this DVD is not worth the money. If you have not ready anything about newborn care (books or magazine articles), maybe this DVD can get you started with basic information as a new mom. I have found that some information differs with information found in newborn care books and magazines (and from prepared childbirth classes).

I'm 8 months pregnant with my first baby and was very hesitant to buy this dvd.Based on all the 5 star reviews I thought they must be from friends of the people who made this (like so many reviews). I was wrong. This was the easiest to watch baby care video I bought. They included websites and a phone number where to get our car seat installed. (I called immediately to get it installed and there was a waiting list, like they said in the video) ABC's also showed all the baby care products I didn't even realize I needed. (The essential list is after the credits) Smart thinking on making this list visual. It helped me when I went to stock up at the store. FYI: the other three DVD'S were completely UNWATCHABLE. (My husband refused to watch the one which began with a baby coming out of the birth canal) For you first time moms, don't even bother with other dvd's. It is a waste of money. My husband and I rate ABC's of newborn baby care THE BEST along with Dr. Karps, "happiest baby..." These are the only two dvds that really helped us.

Are you serious?,

I bought this DVD for my sister who is expecting. I see that this DVD won awards but I don't know how. This video is cheesy and hard to watch. I would not recommend this video, it was not worth it.

Okay, So I don't know much about babies. It's not a crime but a fact.
I'm 20 and the youngest of three. I read all the reviews here and decided to buy this dvd. My husband and I were sooo nervous about having a baby. I'm due in four weeks so we watched this video and both of us feel like we can do this now. Seeing the babynurse give instructions with a real baby gave us that extra confidence. This is an elementary video but I needed the basics!! It covers sooo much information that we watched a couple chapters twice. If you're having your first baby- this is the guide.

Nervous Fathers-to-be...listen up,

Nervous Fathers and Father's-to-be listen up. If you only watch one video... make it this one ! Forget all the cutesy girly books and dry 70's medical videos. This video cuts to the chase and gives you the fundamentals of what you need to know when little Jr gets home from the hospital and there is no nurse to bail you out at 3:30 am. A lifesaver for the first-time Dad.

A must see for first time parents-before you have your baby,

My husband was very nervous about having a girl. We watched this DVD together and it seemed to put him at ease a little. I believe SEEING the nurse give a bath or burp a newborn, or clean the belly button area gives more reassurance than reading a book. My husband told his buddies about this DVD (they already have children), his friends joked to him, "now that he knows how to do everthing, he'll be taking care of the baby." He just shrugged. It's nice to see him more confident and more at ease. It could be a little slow in some areas, but I definitely RECOMMEND this video.

A friend of a friend told me about this dvd. Said for my husband to watch because I can't get him to read any of the books. Some of the stuff is pretty basic but some of it was really great. We both know exactly how to give a bath, clean the umbilical cord, and what to by for my baby. (I don't have many friends to tell me that stuff.) But what I thought was great is my husband seems a little more "hands on" after seeing this video. That in itself is worth it to me. Thanks.
p.s.- watch before your due date.

Just what I needed,

With so much information out there on newborn care it can be very overwhelming. This dvd gives a visual to calm the anxiety. I don't think it claims to know everything, it just gives the "abc's" of newborn care. If it had as much information as a book it would probably be 3 hours long. This dvd is 45 minutes which was all I could sit through.
This dvd is perfect for those who want to sit back and "see" the basics. I'm going to be a dad soon and this dvd really helped me. My wife read so many books that she had information overload. No one needs that before you deliver. This dvd hopes you gain "confidence" by watching. That's exactly what I gained. |
